When I think of "open", I think of screaming to rooftops for everyone to hear. He isn't doing that at all. He doesn't have his media connects pushing that narrative. If he did football scoop and Feldman would have said something but football scoop has only responded to one Purdue rumor and called it ridiculous to even think that's true. They are very tight with Butch.

Kicking tires through agent isn't openly shopping yourself. My biggest issue with him and this part is he was doing it the week of the Vandy game like a sleeze. Only reason so many people know all this is the AD is so in flux that it's loose lips everywhere because they don't have Hitman hart to worry about firing them.

Hubbs said yesterday Sports talk that Butch's agent approached Purdue, Houston, and Oregon to gauge interest and there was none. Where are the media guys getting this info? Have they tapped Butch's phone? He's leaking this stuff out. It's obvious.

CBJ has turned around a program that was on life support -the Vols. Do not be so sure that other programs would not be interested.
I think a lot of people have forgotten how bad it was under Dooley. No one wanted this job.

I give him credit for that and he is twice what dooley was but i lost the faith in him after app st! If not for some good efforts by the players we easily could have been 6-6! Also for 5 games in a row we looked unprepared in the first half!!

Exactly. Openly shopping is far from what actually happened. Loose lips. Plus kicking tires really means find me a team that's interested so I can leverage it for a job. Butch is too stubborn to think he can't turn this ship around. He's not the bailing kind, he's the go down with the ship kind. He has no plans in leaving, just getting a raise.

That's still local media and not national. Butch isn't Hubbs only way to get information. Hubbs knows a lot of people. I don't have Butchs phone tapped and I know a school not mentioned in public by anyone yet including Hubbs that his agent spoke to before the Vandy loss. Maybe Hubbs knows it but just hasn't said it because it's a school that actually wanted him. It's not an open position at moment. Doubt they take him now

Complete different situation. The Fisher LSU story was out in national media being reported all over the place. You have to do something in that scenario.

In Butch case, it's only been on message board sites. Not ESPN/national media blasting articles daily on it. You don't make public statements to answer message board clutter. It brings up an issue to light for even more to see when you don't want them to. There hasn't been anything for either side to have to come out and say they support or don't support each otherZ everyone knows we aren't firing him.

It has been discussed on ESPN shows. I've come across it in articles and it's been on social media. Former players have talked about it on TV and radio. Recruits are hearing all this stuff and wondering about it. Maybe it matters; maybe it doesn't. We'll see.

I recall so many post saying "i will never complain about 8-9 win seasons again".

It is in no way a surprise to me that those same posters have now flip flopped again.

You and I are old timers on VN. I remember the same thing. I am glad we have high expectations as Vol fans.

CBJ has missed on several oline prospects and that has hurt us. Injuries at DT killed us this year.
As long as we are in the SEC we will only be a 8-9 win team until we win the line of scrimmage. We need Moore and Smith to become Vols in this recruiting cycle. We have Crosby coming in and are working on other DT's.
This recruiting cycle will determine CBJ's fate. S&C needs upgrade to help in this area also.

It helps that we have Cade Mays coming in 2018.

We could have also been easily 11-1. I agree offense was unprepared against Appy St. Thomas should not have been playing and Jack Jones should have. This simply change would have changed that game.

Amen and to add to that the damn quote was fine

Exactly this.

I'm surrounded by friends and family from enemy camps (UGA, Ole Miss, Bama, Florida) and they've all given me grief - but I swear, our own "fans" and " local press" are absolutely the worst. And they should know better. The man was proud of his seniors. That's it. That's all. NOTHING wrong with what he said, however clumsily he said it.

Never understood why it took so long to put Jack Jones in!

You just made my point. Butch has lost the trust of many by shopping around. It doesn't matter whether it's local media or not. Hubbs, Paul, Brice, and Chris Lowe have all said he would jump given the circumstances here. They've all said he feels underappreciated. That tells me there is a divide between what he thinks reasonable expectations should be and what the fans think they should be. That is a recipe for disaster imo. Like it or not many have lost faith in Butch and he's going to have to do something fairly spectacular to win their trust back. This is a different Butch than the one that arrived on campus 4 years ago. That Butch seemed humble and grateful for the opportunity. This Butch seems privileged and has a higher self worth than he warrants IMO.

I'm glad football season is almost over. Haven't said that since 2011.

I thought the same thing the other day. I don't even look forward to the bowl game. I thought well we've got signing day coming up but I immediately thought that might not be that uplifting either.

I promised to help organize the garage this weekend and put up all the Christmas lights. Good excuse not to watch the SECCG and think what should have been.

Tailgates Mosaic IPA is very tasty. That's my go to when I go there.

The Grapefruit IPA and Peanut Butter Milk Stout are my two faves there at the moment. There are at least half a dozen great breweries in a 3 mile radius of Nissan stadium. I work down there a bunch. Some other restaurant ideas (besides Arnold's, which is my favorite place to eat anywhere on Earth - just be prepared to nap for at least an hour after you eat there)

Saint Anejo
The Tavern
5 Points Pizza
Rose Peppers
Party Fowl
The Southern

I get the feeling Involuntary may know the "unmentioned school" that you are referring to.

Sums it up to a T.

Moaaaaar steam!

Funny. I don't respond to bruin often but this one is in part directed at me since I'm one one of those posters.

My "negative" posts since the Vandy game have been simply to make the point that I believe that loss is the straw that broke the camels back for Jones and I don't think he will overcome it. I honestly hope he does for the good of the program, but I have lost confidence to that he will. Partly because of his own flaws (which are well documented here and i won't belabor) and partly because I think the momentum on all fronts is working heavily against him.

That's it. I'm fine with competitive seasons where we play hard and are competitive but fall short of expectations while remaining in the top 25. I don think this one fits that description anymore after the Vandy loss. Something is really missing and im not optimistic we will win the bowl game.

But again I'm very happy to be wrong in all of this and I won't belabor my views on this board.
