I'm sure he really doesn't want to be fired and would rather leave on his own terms. He's made numerous comments about pressures and expectations and if he feels unappreciated, he's right-- fans don't appreciate losing to SCAR and Vandy and choking away the SECE and the Sugar Bowl. The narrative is completely against him and he's done nothing to flip it.
True. Last I heard, Jan 1 is the official transition date if things go as hoped. But Hart wants to stay longer and some are not totally against that. We don't need things to get any more hostile. Managing so many egos and balancing demands is tricky business.
It has been discussed on ESPN shows. I've come across it in articles and it's been on social media. Former players have talked about it on TV and radio. Recruits are hearing all this stuff and wondering about it. Maybe it matters; maybe it doesn't. We'll see.
You just made my point. Butch has lost the trust of many by shopping around. It doesn't matter whether it's local media or not. Hubbs, Paul, Brice, and Chris Lowe have all said he would jump given the circumstances here. They've all said he feels underappreciated. That tells me there is a divide between what he thinks reasonable expectations should be and what the fans think they should be. That is a recipe for disaster imo. Like it or not many have lost faith in Butch and he's going to have to do something fairly spectacular to win their trust back. This is a different Butch than the one that arrived on campus 4 years ago. That Butch seemed humble and grateful for the opportunity. This Butch seems privileged and has a higher self worth than he warrants IMO.

haha wow butch is cooler than i though. debord too.Good morning VN. Wonder what made up fable we are going to use today to hate on Butch.
I heard he and Debord were cleaning some of the pools together in Gatlinburg and were smoking pot. Butch threw down his lit doobie and started one of the fires. He confessed to Trey Smith about it and that's why we are losing him.
What a fool he is. Dooley all over again.
Basilio has been saying since mid October that he was hearing that Butch wouldn't mind a fresh start elsewhere. Butch is thin skinned and feels like he's underappreciated and doesn't understand the heat he's received. Said he felt he would be open to a lateral move. Sounds to me like he was spot on.
Volquest and 247 know that Trace Armstrong has been kicking tires on some programs and they are reporting it now because they have something more concrete.
Also, LWS was tossing out scenarios where Butch bounced to the NFL if he could parlay a 10-2 season into an offer. (Not quite the same thing as what we are talking about now but it shows that he wasn't as married to this job as we thought)
Also, Butch isn't "leaking" this stuff on his own. That would be stupid.
That money, right?
Correct. Obviously that's not gonna happen.
That was always silly talk. Not sure why LWS brought it up. He knows better.
Agreed.
I can't wait until next week when the fans are so pissed at Butch for saying he is excited about going to whatever bowl we go to. He will get crucified for saying that on Monday.
Uh, no. Hart has done a lot of good here. Also, Hamilton was a slow death. He devalued UT athletics over a long period of time.
Acting like Hart is piledriving the UTAD is crazy talk. Anyone who takes a long hard look at the program over the last decade will tell you he is going to leave it much better than he found it in a number of areas. The next guy is set up to succeed.
Hart was basically brought in to clean up the mess left by Hammy. He has done that and now it is time for him to go. He has served his purpose.
They will. Right now he can do nothing right in their eyes. He could say anything and it will get twisted by the fans.
If he is going to remain at Tennessee he needs to drop the canned PC talk. Individuals, eye discipline and that stuff. Personally, I don't care what he says but it has ran it's course with fans and fuels the rage now.
I remember how mad I used to get after a loss when Fulmer responded every time "well we've got to check the film." After a while "check the film" became like nails on a chalkboard. Butch has about a dozen phrases like this people are tired of hearing and he just needs to shut up and coach.
