This is why you need a strong athletic director over on the hill to prevent crap articles like this from happening.

Someone needs to keep the Knoxville media in check. They are a bunch of whiners that need some humble pie.

Managing the media is in the HC's job description. Most problems could be avoided or mitigated by making our HC work with a media coach.

It's not just butch though. the media in Knoxville is mostly ****. Cats like Wes Rucker don't deserve a Tennessee beat and it's why I don't pay for 247 and won't until that fat boob is gone.

No doubt. Butch's media policy on injuries (implemented at the start of last season after the Marquez North rumors) is the genesis of a lot of his media problems.

One of the top threads in 247's Vol message board today is instructions for how to unsubscribe from the site. Folks over there are lighting them up for the Haney hit piece.

Knoxville media is terrible. CBJ is not great in pressers. Mix the two together and bad things happen. Hart didn't press the issue, but it's reasonable to assume the new AD will address the problem.

The most ignorant part of the entire article is when the writer tries to throw more negative spin with this quote:

“I think that place can be so great. I really do.” he said. “But it just looked like everyone there had been punched right in the face. It was bad.”

Well I damn sure would expect everyone within the program to "look like there were punched in the face" after Vandy. That is exactly how they should act but that fool tries to spin that as more made up witch hunting.

I think I'm going to step back for a while. Some of this stuff irritates me more than it should. No logic in letting a source of entertainment have a negative impact on me.

I'll probably check in when there's something important to talk about, but I mostly plan to chill until NSD. So until then, I wish you all a Merry Christmas.

David Cornwell planning to transfer from Alabama. If he's gone before the CFP, Alabama will only have one scholarship quarterback on the roster for the game.

If this were Tennessee that would be front page news. 3 quarterbacks transferring in 1 year

I was just looking at the UT Official Football Roster on the UTSports website, just looking every so often to see if there are position changes or something like that. Well this may have already been updated from a while ago, but I never caught it if so - DJ Henderson, who was #10, is now #38.

No big deal, except for the fact that now there is only one #10 on the UT Roster now: Tyler Byrd. Just thought that was a random change to make, unless of course the staff was interested in making a switch with Byrd from offense to defense at some point in the bowl prep or offseason. Or with him being the only #10, they could in theory play him on both sides of the ball. Jauan Jennings is the only #15, too. Curious... or my OCD is getting bad and I'm looking for something that's not there. :)

Bingo. It would have been a garbage article even if it had a neutral title, but the title they decided to use takes them out of the journalism department and puts them on the tabloid rack.

Exactly! I don't know anything much about Haney but what would one expect the mood is after losing to Vandy? I disagree with the Moderator who says UT blew it by not responding, why would they respond to un-named sources? I wouldn't..

AD is there to protect the HC even if it's from himself.

This solution is simply for the new Ad. If the any media outlet uses unnamed Ad members in reporting "news" that outlet losses all access to any university employee over and beyond normal media access. Any university officials not abiding by that policy should lose their job.

You said you hadn't read the article yet, correct? Let me give you a little flavor of the nonsense we are talking about here:

"During a recent visit, a college football source said it appeared as if everyone in the building was in the dumps.

“I think that place can be so great. I really do.” he said. “But it just looked like everyone there had been punched right in the face. It was bad.”

I have no problem with the part of the article where he quotes sources saying there will be staff changes or things actually related to facts pertinent to the program, but the quote above is just a clear example of garbage, tabloid level nonsense.

I agree, "college football source" is a strange way of phrasing it. I don't have an issue with using that quote if it's attributed to say, "a member of the national football media who recently visited...." or "a source who works in the athletic department" as it presumably adds texture. But college football source is strange.

The quote itself is ignorant. Hell everyone should be depressed after the Vandy game. Just dumb statement

And?

It was said to a journalist. He presumably used it to describe the mood in the building. Not the end of the world, or particularly unique.

OK...I've been highly critical of Butch, but I think a lot that is unsubstantiated horsecrap. What unnamed "sources" outside of those that hate Butch, would say all that undermining crap? Fir instance which "captains" according to his "source" weren't deserving of the honor? Since the "source" made a point of saying he wasn't talking about Dobbs and Barnett(incidentally not a captain)..I'm assuming he is referring to JRM, Cam and Kamara. That is horsecrap. Not buying it.

He inappropriately used it to pile on and add to his the sky is falling agenda. Of course the mood was down after the Vandy game.

I am sure he was referring to Hurd and just wasn't smart enough to know he wasn't a captain.

Again, why was it inappropriately used? Are quotes about the mood at campaign headquarters on election night- good or bad- out of bounds and evidence of an agenda?
