I just find it funny how 247 posts this damning article about the program and right next to it are articles about our recent 5 and 4* commits and another one about Bubba Thompson trending our way. Doesn't exactly frame the picture that the sky is falling.

If he had seen the mood first hand, and was simply reporting it -- no issue at all. The problem, imo, is the unnamed "college football source."

I'd suggest you read the full article McGees, before weighing in on whether there was an "agenda" or not.

Two different people inside the UT program have said there is "a lot of Helfrich talk." I think CBJ is examining all aspects of his program and what he needs to do. It is a pivotal time for UT football. This season was disappointing for myriad reasons, but the program still can go forward.

The Hoke and Fair combo are the two names I most hear in terms of defensive moves, but I am literally working folks around football every day to try and make sure I'm not missing anything.

Hoke and Shoop may not have history working side by side but there is much mutual respect there, I have been told. They've also worked and recruited in the same circles.

Not necessarily defending it, but catching up on the thread there is a ton of discussion about this article.

And I disagree. A piece should try to paint the whole picture of a situation, even if it describes somethinf some perceive to be unflattering.

DT recruiting is really perplexing. We didn't take a HS DT last year. You would think with the rash of injuries we had that would be a focus. Now after the Gaddy bros bounced we only have two committed. You would think we would have some lined up if we told the Gaddys to look elsewhere, but I'd doesn't look like we have a lot of options.

Nothing we could do about the Gaddy twins. Those dudes are gonna have to go to JUCO unless someone pulls a fast one. That's been done before though.

This one from title to the final period most definitely did not.

There are plenty of negatives in the program, no one could deny that. But this was a blatant tabloid hit piece.

The more I think about it and the author's recent career trajectory, I can't help but think he was banking on this article for some serious shock value, clickbait and some radio spots to defend it in order market himself to bigger outlets.

Going from ESPN.com to Vols 247 is not the right direction.

Yes. CBJ has resisted help. It has been offered. Repeatedly.

Then, assuming that the new AD will also recognize the needs, hopefully he will take a different approach in helping CBJ appreciate the benefits of the proposed assistance and getting him to embrace the support.

Maybe this article, while biased and telling one side, along with the USC/Vandy losses, and Butch feeling the real displeasure of the fanbase right now, might just be sobering enough for him to finally leave his self-righteous bubble and realize he better make some serious changes if he wants to stay here and not get run out of town after next season... It is all on HIM now, no excuses... he can't hide or coach speak his way out of this article....

Just read the article, but noticed Wes's tweets defending it earlier....

What is he thinking?

And why would any fan site publish a glorified forum/blog post like this just as the program got a sliver of positive recruiting momentum?

To clarify... the article is fine. I've come to accept the amateurish level of journalism that the internet age has spawned. However, the title and timing is intentional for maximum shock value.

I guess I can add 247sports to my blocked website list to go along with yahoo and huffington post.

OK...I've been highly critical of Butch, but I think a lot that is unsubstantiated horsecrap. What unnamed "sources" outside of those that hate Butch, would say all that undermining crap? Fir instance which "captains" according to his "source" weren't deserving of the honor? Since the "source" made a point of saying he wasn't talking about Dobbs and Barnett(incidentally not a captain)..I'm assuming he is referring to JRM, Cam and Kamara. That is horsecrap. Not buying it.

That quote about the captains was so off base too. These captains were elected by the players. If the players voted a captain I would have to say they are very deserving.. no player is going to vote for you if you aren't.

David Cornwell planning to transfer from Alabama. If he's gone before the CFP, Alabama will only have one scholarship quarterback on the roster for the game.

If this were Tennessee that would be front page news. 3 quarterbacks transferring in 1 year

I've been saying QB depth is Alabama's one weakness all year.
