Unless Chip Kelly is coming with him, I'm not as excited about Helfrich. His Oregon teams dropped off because their O wasn't NEARLY as dynamic.

Finished #2 in scoring offense his first year

Had a Heisman trophy winning QB in his 2nd year and made the National Championship game

I think we'd all be alright with that

His teams dropped off because of defense, not offense.

He won quarterback coach of the year in 2010 and 2012 with two different quarterbacks and was almost won National offensive cooridinator of the year in 2012. Prior to Oregon his quarterback while at Arizona St broke the Pac-10 touchdown record and every Arizona St QB records. While at Boise State his QB won conference player of the year back to back in 2009 and 2010. And finally at Colorado, his first OC job, he put up numbers that a Colorado offense hadn't hit in years.

So yeah, I'd say we would be lucky to have him and would be a game changer.

Wes really is the worst and he doesn't even do a good job. Man if Brice was that big of a dbag I'd still respect his work. Wes reads this board, I propose a we hate Wes Rucker thread where we just roast

I would love that thread. The beat writers definitely look at boards like this. Heck, just a month or so ago someone put up a I hate Jared Stillman thread, (he's a radio host in Nashville) and he commented on it on his show the very next day.

Yeah, I don't know why everyone's gaga over Helfrich. Chip Kelly is an offensive genius as is, and before that, Helfrich was OC at Colorado which was hardly lighting the world on fire.

That was his first OC job but he was actually pretty successful at both the jobs prior as a QB coach. Also, his offense was still very successful this year.

Probably because we'd be replacing a retired swim coach with a coach who was the head coach in a NC game 2 years ago.

Obvious upgrade.

Jeromiah Masoli and Daron Thomas in Chip Kelly's offense. I mean, I'm not doubting he's a good coach, I just don't think he's a mastermind; Chip Kelly was...

How much of that was Chip Kelly? I believe he was very hands on.

While it's true Kelly called the plays but do you really think Oregon paid him to just have a title?

He was a coordinator in Colorado prior to Oregon. He has been known as a QB guru. Debord still on staff with Helfrich working with QBs... yes please

The Haney article is spot on.

I know he used credible sources and I know who some of them were.

He sat down with the UT PR dept and gave them opportunities to respond, clarify, fact check and they dropped the ball.

Haney is not a hack journalist no matter what some of you want to believe.

You would know if anyone.

How are things your way?

Chip Kelly was definitely a mastermind, no doubt. Which is another reason I want Helfrich, some of his philosophies had to have rubbed off on him lol.

Article didn't bother me. We are Tennessee and things have to change. That's not a secret. Butch has a year to prove it and I hope like hell he makes everyone eat their words.

Then don't be a coward and put the name to the quotes… End of story!

That isn't him being a coward.

The sources didn't want to burn their bridges or have this fan base rip them to shreds for just speaking the truth.

They wanted this information out there so that the issues would be fixed.

Do you think that the WSJ or NYT always name their sources. YOu have to protect them sometimes.

Remember Watergate?

Don't get me wrong, he'd be a good hire, but Butch's offense is what it is. Pardon my hyperbole, but I worry it'd just be rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

Correct, my opinion of the Helfrich hire would be if he gets control of the offense. Probably just wishful thinking at this point, though.

You do realize Kelly has been in NFL the past few years? So Helfrich has proven that he can coach the offense at an extremely high level since. Not bad to have Dirk Koetter and Chip Kelly as your offensive influence

This is why you need a strong athletic director over on the hill to prevent crap articles like this from happening.

Someone needs to keep the Knoxville media in check. They are a bunch of whiners that need some humble pie.

A strong AD wouldn't have prevented this article. They don't control the media.

They would have, however, taken an active role to make this article a bit more balanced.

This current admin looked at this article and did nothing to help their own cause. That's on them.

The fact of the matter is the article has as lot of truth in it and if you can't handle that as a fan base then that is what it is.
