The instructions were obviously: Choose the best players and a coach from this list of schools in the SEC that have a capital A in their name. Bonus points will be awarded for every player/coach chosen from the most alphabetical school on the list.

NOTE: ANSWERS MUST BE WRITTEN USING A NO. 2 PENCIL.

Obviously they used a NO. 4 and all the answers were incorrect

Obviously it was a **** show in the end, but 2009 is the only year in the last 10 that I can honestly say we overachieved on the field. Do you disagree?

I think Lane Kiffin has sucked so far as a HC, and his record everywhere he has had the opportunity proves that. Now, could that change based on maturity, experience, etc. Absolutely.

What did he say?

From yesterday on sportstalk Jimmy Hyams on the Haney article:

Some of it he thinks is spot on and some of it he is having trouble believing. (Butch Jones doesn't believe he belongs at this level)

Says S&C has been an issue, no doubt.

Unnamed sources..... Jimmy says if you are being that critical you need to have more named sources. Jimmy uses unnamed sources more when someone is being fired or hired. He knows he needs to protect those sources.

Sidenote: Vince Ferrara wants so badly for Jimmy to say that fans are wrong (Vince evens mocks the fans) and Haney is not out of bounds by using unnamed sources. He's practically begging Jimmy to join him on his side of the line. This is typical of Knoxville media.

We are lucky to have Jimmy Hyams in this market and a lot of the local stooges should take notes from him.

He's the best head coach we've had here in 10 years.

I disagree, sometimes those "marginal commitments" develop into something good. Look at the OL from WV.

Dust said it exactly right. He said its as if the staff doesn't know how good they are at recruiting. Your post above has the same thinking. Locklear is a recruit we 100% could have gotten later in the process once we knew he was really going to develop. Hell we just beat saban and CUM for a lineman and we act like we aren't elite.

Haney said on TOS that they intentionally waited until after the Smith announcement to release the article because they were trying to be sensitive to that situation.

How about include his commitment in the article then!?

If you would have said he is a better OC than we have had for some time (since Cutcliffe), I would agree. He left us in shambles at a time where our stupid AD made a knee-jerk hire and we got Dooley. That fantastic recruiting class of his...wasn't.

4.5 of his 8.5 sacks came against UTSA. He had only 3 sacks in all of SEC play. Garrett can run faster and jump higher but when it comes to on field production, Barnett is just better.

In 18 SEC games, Barnett has 21 sacks and 32.5 tackles for loss.

In 18 SEC games, Garrett has 11 sacks and 17 tackles for loss.

Don't know where you got your stats but they're wrong. Barnett has played in 24 SEC games. In which I believe he has 28 or 29 sacks.

Yeah the best time to release that article would have been after NSD. As of now it was horrible timing in the middle of a HUGE recruiting week and before the bowl. Asinine.

Ferrara is about the worst. For someone whose livelihood is supported primarily by Tennessee fans, he has an illogically low opinion of them.

Much better to release it after the commitment than before when Saban and Meyer could address it face to face.

I agree, Smith probably should have been mentioned, but it probably would have come at the end when discussing possible hope for the future. I'm not sure that an inclusion of a sentence about a commitment makes that big of a difference in the content of the article, though.

I don't think it's as cut and dried as you make it out to be. Part of us landing Trey Smith was the long-term relationship (he even cited after he announced that UT was the first offer he received). So, sometimes that early offer is necessary and makes a difference, as opposed to slow-playing a guy to see if he becomes what most expect.

(*Caveat - I realize that Trey Smith was probably more of a "sure thing" recruit than other guys...that plays into it, too).

Let's recap that overachieving 2009 year....

Lost to a 6-6 UCLA team at home.
Lost to a 7-5 Auburn team at home.
Lost to both Florida and Alabama.
Got flat out embarrassed by an 8-4 Ole Miss team where we no-showed.
Got flat out embarrassed by Virginia Tech in our bowl game where we no-showed.

Beat an 8-4 Georgia team and a 7-5 South Carolina team.
