I agree, Smith probably should have been mentioned, but it probably would have come at the end when discussing possible hope for the future. I'm not sure that an inclusion of a sentence about a commitment makes that big of a difference in the content of the article, though.

He should have mentioned that smith has been to campus countless times spending hours upon hours with the players. He also was quoted how great the player atmosphere was around the program as being one of the big reasons he choose the vols. He was waaaay to familiar with the program to say the things he did and sense the things said on the article

Let's recap that overachieving 2009 year....

Lost to a 6-6 UCLA team at home.
Lost to a 7-5 Auburn team at home.
Lost to both Florida and Alabama.
Got flat out embarrassed by an 8-4 Ole Miss team where we no-showed.
Got flat out embarrassed by Virginia Tech in our bowl game where we no-showed.

Beat an 8-4 Georgia team and a 7-5 South Carolina team.

I don't think it's as cut and dried as you make it out to be. Part of us landing Trey Smith was the long-term relationship (he even cited after he announced that UT was the first offer he received). So, sometimes that early offer is necessary and makes a difference, as opposed to slow-playing a guy to see if he becomes what most expect.

(*Caveat - I realize that Trey Smith was probably more of a "sure thing" recruit than other guys...that plays into it, too).

So taking the early commitment doesn't mean you have to work as hard to form the relationships you speak of?

Brace for a "year 0" comment.

I'm just saying that it's within the realm of possibility that if a guy is considering UT, and when he's about to announce his decision Saban and Urban walk through the door, perhaps our chances of closing the deal are greater if we've been in this kids ear, building the relationship, for 2 solid years that included an earlier offer than other schools.

Well, why don't you write an article about that and post it on the internet?

You obviously didn't like the article, why not chalk it up to that instead of a laundry list of "shoulda said that" and "shouldn't have said that?"

Still a great OC and recruiter. Better first years than Dooley and Butch.

SIAP: Butch doing in-home with Riley Locklear today.
Also, Coach Scott and Coach G will be out to see TE commit James Brown today.

You decide to read it or this another post about something you have no idea about?
