SIAP CFN final ranking:

10. Tennessee (9-4)

Season Score: 17.67
2016 Preseason Prediction: 11-1
2016 CFN Preseason Opinion Ranking: 5

Remember, the Volunteers had a whole slew of strong wins early on, beating Virginia Tech and Florida, and the Music City win over Nebraska helped crank up the score. Only Clemson and Alabama had more Quality Wins – wins over teams that finished with winning records. This might not have been the season Tennessee was hoping for, but considering the schedule, as it turned out, it wasn’t that bad.

Quality Wins and Champions of Life....

:)

Its Canales. It's always been Canales. All the interviews are like the interviews he did when everyone knew that Debord was the only candidate. Jmo

If its Canales would it make sense to keep interviewing after Canales?

Most of our offensive targets are coming in on the 27th I expect an announcement before then.

He did the same with Debord hire. Wants to say they've vetted many candidates but what he's really doing is giving the staff time to interview former players and co workers who will sing his praises because he isn't a big name hire. Like Tom Brady's quotes on Debord... again, jmo, would much rather get O'Connell or Richmond, and maybe I'm wrong. Just feels like the Debord hire

Could be I just feel like he is still looking for something better. We shall see.

A hire that turned out pretty well IMO. I know others disagree, but we did have a pretty good offense this year. Did he make some boneheaded calls on occasion? Yes. Did we have a bad offense. Numbers say otherwise.....and no, regardless of what some want to say, Dobbs did not save our asses for thirteen games this year.

I agree. It's the butch way. I don't think we're ever going to make a splash offensove hire under butch. At least Canales has extensive QB coaching experience, even if he hasn't been all that successful. Maybe if he can focus just on QB he'll be ok.

Debord wasn't a bad hire. I do think we could have done better. Debord's problem was predictability and his tendency to be too conservative. He also struggled with adjustments. But overall he was a solid B hire imo. And maybe Canales will be great. I do think there are better candidates tho but it just feels like Butch wants his guy and that's Canales.

Maybe put Mixon inside and Kongbo back outside.

I'd just keep them both outside and let both play some inside on passing downs that's about it tired of giving up size on the interior just to appease depth. The depth is there when healthy we should have a 4-5 man rotation at DT with a healthy vickers, khalil, Alexis Johnson, and Tuttle at some point hopefully with potentially a freshman or Bain/piccou helping out on the backend

Scott is the exception. That hire came out of nowhere and was a good one. Maybe he does the same thing here, we'll see

Canalas could be a pretty good hire considering recruiting wise he can point to contributation of the developmenf of Phillip Rivers anytime he wants.

Debord wasn't horrible, but just like Bama in the title game, putting up good numbers in spurts instead of sustaining drives can wear out your defense. While our numbers were good, we were close to dead last in time of possession. So many 3 or 4 and outs. Defense owns a lot of that too, but Debord seemed to sacrifice many, many drives to set up a big play for a score.

So, like most things in life, I don't think debord was as good as the numbers suggest, but he was better than I and many others thought he would be.

And Dobbs did save Debord more often than not IMO. DeBord refused to run Dobbs for a good portion of the season, and our offense was horrible without designed runs for Dobbs.

If Canales (or any QB coach) came on don't you think he would be a co-OC/QB coach? IMO, the only reason we haven't named Scott as OC yet is because we are looking for someone to pair him with as a Co-OC. Butch hasn't interviewed anyone else for the OC position right? Scott has been with Butch in every interview IIRC. That to me means that we possibly will name whoever the QB coach is as a co-OC.
