Nah..that's where I disagree. I really think Butch tried to make that happen. I can see why he would want a longer and more firm commitment from Helfrich, and why that would be a sticking point. I agree Scott was a plan B.
D4H,
Perhaps you should start a thread for these daily/periodic updates. That way the majority at large doesn't have to read pages of opinion in regards to the validation of your player analysis unless they choose to do so?
Both of those were terrible QBs in the pros. Neither had the tools to be great QBs like Dak had. You're really arguing that draft position is more important than how well a QB actually plays in deciding who is better?
No. You said he was a "scrap". You were wrong by using him since UT doesn't have him yet... and effectively wrong since Hubbs seems to think UT's chances hinge on Bama not wanting him.Never said he committed. (Notice how guys like this create bs out of thin air to support their baseless arguments)
Not necessary. You were wrong- doubly wrong. But that was the player you referring to when you chose the word 'scraps' to refer to a 4 star defensive tackle. For someone who spends so much time and energy wanting to be 'right' on the Internet, I think I would let this one go. Going to be hard to lawyer your way out of your previous foolish comment.
No I'm arguing how you think Dak was on this complete different level than Dobbs in college. They are easily at the same level as playmakers at the QB position. At their best I would take Dobbs over Dak in college. He's far more dynamic. Dak is benefiting in the pros from a very good RB and an elite O-line. IMO
As I watch more tape and new names get into the top 20, its natural for guys at the bottom to fall out.
I've consistently said that Barnett is a late 1st round type player in value. My NFL comparison for him is a blend of Michael Bennett (Seahawks) and Charles Johnson (Panthers). That's a real good player who will start for a long time in the NFL. But its not a superstar.
And with the 2017 draft being one of the strongest in the last 20 years, its highly unlikely he finishes in my top 20 overall prospects.
I agree Dak is not as good as his record. But he was more accurate and made better decisions in college, imo, and was not quite as good a runner as Dobbs. For actual QB purposes, aside from running ability, I think he was on a different level than dobbs. And that's not a slight to Dobbs, because I thought Dak was a second round talent coming out of college. I think Dobbs had a lot of flaws, and at the same time made lemonade out of a lemon OL that very few other QBs could have done.
We suck at sports that nobody cares about (I didn't even know we had a cross country team) but are gonna pretend to care about cause we want Dave Blackburn.
I'll allow it.
Back when Dickey was AD, Tennessee was always in the upper tier for the All Sports competition...need an AD that truly cares about All Tennessee sports programs...Dave Blackburn is that AD candidate.
To quote The Dude:How is pointing out that Jones is now reduced to competing for scraps necessarily bashing him? Is the truth bashing?
I'm relaxed. You're the one that seems to have gotten worked up.
Fact is, some of us warned that if he didn't prove himself within the first 3 years and at the very most 4... recruiting would suffer. Even the most devoted Butch follower can't deny that recruiting for the last two years has been far more of a struggle than the first two when Jones was selling promises rather than reality.
No. You said he was a "scrap". You were wrong by using him since UT doesn't have him yet... and effectively wrong since Hubbs seems to think UT's chances hinge on Bama not wanting him.
Not necessary. You were wrong- doubly wrong.

Apparently Tim Williams failed multiple drug tests at Alabama and all he got was a 1st half suspension vs UK and that was for a gun charge.
