From Gameday on rocky top:

"Any notion the Vols are lacking in talent simply isn’t factual.

Tennessee’s past four recruiting classes ranked seventh, fourth, 14th and 17th nationally.

There are 32 former four- or five-star prospects on the roster. Two at quarterback and running back, three at wide receiver and four on the offensive line. Seven on the defensive line, six at linebacker and eight in the secondary."

I like this but it can also be potentially dangerous... removes any excuses Butch and Co can make. The staff will be expected to maximize the development of this talent, which is definitely doable... 8-9 wins should definitely be reasonable goals/expectations.

"Dangerous" for whom? Same narrative you've always spun. :)

Well, while I was on my Caribbean cruise we got three commits and since I've been back, we have none. I guess that I will just have to take one for the team and go on another cruise :) Who wants to finance that recruiting trip for me?

But I'm crazy for saying I'm expecting 10+ wins from the coaching staff in year 5 with our schedule and weak division.

Not crazy at all. 9 wins regular season should be the floor this year and 10+ should be the expectation. Anything less than 9 regular season wins and it'll be disappointing.

Excuses, excuses, blah, blah,...I love Butch but it's year 5 and his staff has been upgraded significantly in all problem areas. Atlanta is a must, IMO.

This DL class has the potential to be so special. Already have Litaker and Lawless committed, Emerson in the on deck circle and Chatman and Davis at the least, seriously interested. What a DL class that could be. Reel them in CBH!

Who is this CBH you speak of?

Brady Hoke. Sorry, its been a long night. Time for bed.

Dangerous for Butch's famous "coach speak" .... it will potentially eliminate any excuses... We either get it done or we don't.... we all now know if we didn't already, we have the talent, now will it be developed and maximized?...

Read about one of Butch's recent interviews somewhere yesterday where he was talking about how young this team would be. I know he says that just about every year but in year 5, he needs to be competing for championships. I think this team should be favored to win 9 of the 12 games before the season starts, maybe 10.

That was taken out of context by the ridiculous Knoxville Media. Butch said the team in some regards was young, but very talented. He has also said multiple times that he expects more this offseason, that the team was doing good but that they wanted more. That's more Knoxville media narrative coming from the fact that they hate Butch. Kress made a big deal about that yesterday on twitter and was called out for it.

exactly. ppl need to stop paying attention to anything in the knox medio or radio. Hes right, There is alot of young players but they are very talented. This program always thrives more when ppl count them out. Im excited to see this passing game. I think its going to be night and day different for the better.

Oh ok, should have known better then. I actually just read the title of the article and a few sentences and stopped reading after that. As far as this team goes, I'm still thinking 8-4. I'm just in "prove it to me" mode.

Sure, we might be young in some areas but not good enough of an excuse to win less than 9, sorry.

Dormady is a Junior and this is JG's second year in the program, youth not a good excuse for QB. Inexperience? Sure. But those guys are very talented 4 stars with nationwide offers. Time to live up to it.

OL is deep, experienced and not young.

WR's and RB's are young and inexperienced for the most part but that's not as big of a deal at skill positions. Lots of talent and Kelly at RB is plenty experienced. Just stay healthy and we're fine there.

TE isn't young or inexperienced.

DL is deep and talented with plenty of upperclassman and some young guys, again, just need to stay healthy.

LB has plenty of upperclassmen depth and experience but likely the biggest question marks due to lack of production behind DKjr.

Secondary has plenty of depth and talent but like LB question marks with production but that's why Warren was hired.

Kicking game should be at the top of the league, again.

I'm not seeing many good excuses for a 7-5 type season unless we have another year of mass injuries which isn't likely with Rock around. Butch upgraded all over the staff and we should expect those guys to make a big difference on the field in terms of wins. We've won 8 regular season game two years in a row and should have won 9-10. Are we really expecting to go backwards in year 5? I'm not. I know we lost some talented players but we have plenty of talent behind them, recruiting has been Butch's strong suit.

10+ regular season wins isn't too much to expect with this roster and staff. I don't care what the media says. And that brings up a good point, expectations are lower nationally, most expect UT to finish 3rd in the East. But UT fans know better. I'm expecting to win the East and close with a top 5 class.

I'm glad he expects more out of the team this offseason, because I expect more out of him during the actual season.

If this team stays healthy, a good coaching staff could absolutely get 10 wins out of them. A great one might even run the table or go 11-1.

No reason this roster should win fewer than 8 games against this schedule unless there are serious injury issues

I agree. If most thing break right, this should be an 11 win football team. Especially if QB turns out well.

If we can beat UF in swamp which will be tough just because it's early and a new QBs first road start in about as tough a setting as it gets then I absolutely think 10-2 is almost a given.

I could see 10-2 w only Ls to UF and Bama honestly.

I feel good about pretty much every other game.

I'm kinda thinking 9-3 as the most likely scenario TBH, though I think 10-2 is possible.

I think some of our experience question marks are a bit overrated, but when paired with some of the depth question marks, I can definitely see 3 losses on the table and a "successful" season.

Honestly I just kinda feel like a few guys we'll be counting on may be the type who are bitten by the injury bug no matter how good our S&C program is.

Yep difference between 9-3 and 11-2 is a couple breaks in the current SEC unless you are Bama.

Yes sir. Agree with all of this. If we stay healthy there is good/great SEC talent all over the field.

All in all, with an injury free season and a little luck, this team could make some noise.

Yep, agree on all fronts. If he wins less than 8 regular season games with a relatively healthy roster, if you ask me it's time to get that moving van fired up. In year 5, it's time to take it up a notch.
