The winning gap is significant between CNS and CBJ but it is significant that Jones has surpassed all the other coaches in the SEC besides Saban in the last 3 years. That's a charge from the rear of the pack for the Vols. See how easy positive framing is.

Barnett was drafted 15, and I don't know who Jalen Heard is. Also, I don't accept the "Tennessee fans should know their place" angle. I don't agree with the idea that we're sixth in this fictitious conference pecking order, and I don't agree with the idea that we should be happy with that even if it's true.

With all of that said, I agree with many of the other points raised in the article. Butch Jones has accomplished a lot. No, we haven't contended for a title under Jones yet. But that doesn't negate everything else he has done well here - and in the same way, his successes don't wave away his struggles. Both sides of the story are equally true and equally important when assessing his performance.

Barnett was drafted 14th.

Yeah I think you've got to tier it somewhat.

Bama and UF at the top. LSU right behind them.

Then that next tier of teams. When you start trying to assign numerical numbers it gets too subjective due to criteria.

As far as overall, right now I think it's bama, then UF, then I can't put us below anyone else. To me it's us, LSU, UGA and maybe AU in this tier.

That article showed up in my twitter feed. It had been labeled absolute garbage by VolTwitter. No surprise. That group is absolutely toxic, and I wish there was a way to marginalize them. By all means, disagree with things and be upset, but acting like a horde of petulant children combined with social media trolls is damaging. They literally line up to agree with Vandy and Alabama fans.

Very interesting article from Dodd of all people. Jives with a lot of what Ainge has said about people getting their torches and pitchforks ready for this season (that it is a pointless exercise because those already clamoring for change refuse to understand you would most likely be getting a coach the same or slightly below Jones, so you might as well let him continue to develop).

I'm not a huge hockey guy so my opinion isn't worth much but I've always thought Pekka was solid-good but not great. I felt like the defense made him look better than he is. Not bashing him, just think he is good, not great.

I agree for the most part. Truth probably lies somewhere in between great and above average, IMO. He can be absolutely elite some nights and proof is looking at this playoff run. He had played lights out. The last two games are head scratching though. He caught a few bad breaks but even besides those he hasn't looked the greatest. He has to play better for the Preds to get back in this series.

And that's why I like this site. For the most part people here are level-headed and fair in their assessments and therefore you can have much more interesting discussions. No, not everything is coming up roses, and we acknowledge that, but we're in much better shape than too many Vol fans would have you believe. That excessive negativity isn't good for any one.

This article perfectly articulates my views on Butch. He still has something to prove to stay here long-term, but he was handed a complete disaster and has turned it around very quickly. It took Johnny Majors a lot longer to get us back to some semblance of relevancy after the Bill Battle era (although perhaps Majors had a few more elite wins at this point).

I honestly believe plenty of FBS coaches could have done a lot worse than 9-4 and top 25 with the issues Tennessee faced last year. Michigan State, UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon, Ole Miss and Texas all had disastrous seasons last year with similar (or in some cases less severe) issues. Many of them also were fairly highly ranked in the top 25 early on and plummeted out of it. And yet somehow Butch has been treated worse than most of their coaches this offseason (those coaches that are still around that is).

Bare with me. I didn't bring my phone to the beach, but my dad did. I have evidence. Lol. Right now I'm at McGuire's. Our waiter is from Cookeville. Small world.
