OK. Here's something of a loaded question. Is it reasonable to question a backs durability in the offense the Vols are running? I suppose another way of asking is "how many touches does Kelly get a game this fall?"

Last year we averaged 40 rushing attempts per game. That statistic is spread out fairly evenly over three good backs, and a very good rushing quarterback. This year, there will be more of a traditional hierarchy to the distribution of touches with Kelly getting the most followed by Chandler and Fils aime. I could see Kelly getting 25 a game, and I don't think that would be over working him either. His size and shiftiness actually bodes well for longevity imo.

The roster has him at 5' 9", 212 lbs. No doubt an SEC running back is in a punishing position. I guess instinctively I'd rather see more of a rotation.

He has some pretty great runs last year. You can help but love the drive he has every time he touches the ball. I know it's Tennessee Tech, but the run at 1:47 was impressive.

Dude is a BEAST. I love watching him run. No wasted movement, runs with authority and anger.

Yeah, same here. I imagine we'll see a bit of a drop off in the number of times we run per game this season and a bit more of an uptick in our short/intermediate passing game.

I think something like around 20 carries a game for Kelly and another 10-15 split between RB 2 and/or 3 would be ideal if any of the guys behind Kelly can play at a high enough level to justify taking those carries from him.

Let's hope Chandler is really the 5th best true freshman RB in the country and Kelly and him can catch the ball out of the backfield and be a reasonable facsimile of Kamara, in that regard

Heck, if we are going to hope, let's hope Chandler ends up being the best freshman RB in the history of college football and JK wins the Heisman. I say that because I think both of them are beasts, and I really do think Kelly is going to have a huge season.

Talk to me when they get back to .500 (I consider that a good season if it happens)

They've got one heckuva lineup, and they don't even have Freddie back yet. Their pitching tho is so inconsistent, bullpen isn't very good either. I like what Newcomb has been doing tho, but they need to improve that bullpen badly.

It was stupid of management to gut that team that was 1 or 2 games away from the wild card

Debateable, but I think they're doing a great job right now and have the best farm system in baseball

You don't understand the finances of baseball and the return they got and the drafting along with international signings. Had winning teams at every minor league level last year as well. The number one farm system that the benefits will soon be reaped. Doing it the right way and 18 and 19 will start a great run again. Or perhaps we should've signed Heyward and Upton for over 200 million each. Yeah, they gutted it at the perfect time. Farm system was 30th at that time as well. Do some research how you have to sign and pay players.

I'm pretty excited to see if Freddie can make the switch to 3rd, so that Adams' bat can stay in the line-up. That is turning out to be a huge pick-up. He is swinging a hot bat.

Sources say both Jordan Murphy and Jacquez Jones are on track to finish their needed work in the next week to 10 days and should be in Knoxville the first week in July to start second session summer school which begins on July 6th.

As for the current team, we continue to hear good things about the newcomers at defensive back included in that of grad transfer Shaq Wiggins. There are clearly some solid position battles setting up in the secondary.

Offensively, sophomore tackle Marcus Tatum continues to gain in strength numbers and in weight. Tatum is pushing 280 pounds, making him some some 35 pounds heavier than a year ago. There will plenty of eyes on the position battles on the offensive line, but the most important battle and the one that will go a long ways in determining the starting lineup is the battle at center. Jashon Robertson is going to be a starter. Will it be at center or at guard? The decision at center will dictate what the offensive line starting five looks like.

But the biggest news for the current team is their health and the factor that they have so many guys back working in the weight room than what they had in the spring.

Dobbs saved us last year. The offensive line was at best inconsistent at pass pro last year. Have to hope it's better this year or things could get ugly (I'm confident that won't happen though)

Ainge was talking about this and said Dobbs also made up for his own mistakes with the scrambling. He said that dobbs rarely, if ever, changed the protection at the line. Despite a corner blitz, he'd still roll with a protection that ignored it. Dobbs as a senior qb was exceptionally bad at that.

Now just watching from a couch coach point of view, I can see that being the case. That's not saying the OL didn't mess up because they did but it wasn't just them.

I hope the Braves aren't serious about that. Freeman would be garbage at third. They need to trade Adams asap while his value is at its peak. No way that guy keeps it up.

Great updates today! Sounds like we could be booming a lot real soon. Butch needs to send Hoke and Wells to see Davis and his momma quick. We need him on board!
