I hope the Braves aren't serious about that. Freeman would be garbage at third. They need to trade Adams asap while his value is at its peak. No way that guy keeps it up.

That's my fear. Freddie is our best player and one of the best players in baseball period. Switching positions for him isn't the best idea imo. Also, history doesn't indicate that what Adams is doing will continue. However, if he somehow has become this great hitter at this point in his career, a lineup where the 3,4 and 5 hitters are Freeman, Kemp, and Adams, all guys who are going to hit over 30 homers, is a scary lineup.

Ainge was talking about this and said Dobbs also made up for his own mistakes with the scrambling. He said that dobbs rarely, if ever, changed the protection at the line. Despite a corner blitz, he'd still roll with a protection that ignored it. Dobbs as a senior qb was exceptionally bad at that.

Now just watching from a couch coach point of view, I can see that being the case. That's not saying the OL didn't mess up because they did but it wasn't just them.

Oh, but the O-line is bad.

Kerbyson said the same thing on Sports Source before last season. Said Dobbs had the authority to check off, but wouldn't do it. He had hopes that he would improve at it last season. He didn't.

Despite the shortcomings - which IMO were issues such as this one, a rash of injuries to the O-line starters, and brain farts at play calling - the offense was still the #2 scoring offense to Bama in the SEC and #24 in the NCAA. Granted, they ran scores up against lesser D's (all of them do), but all offenses have weaknesses. Had the D been even mediocre, there would have been even more opportunities to score the ball and the season would have ended in New Orleans after a trip to Atlanta.

The narrative on here gets stuck at times when all some posters need to do is to learn the game a bit better. When Ainge is focused on football he really provides great insights.

You don't know that. I think this is really the first time in quite a while that he's had the opportunity to be a full-time starter.

I agree. This is a short term fix to a long term problem, barring a miracle of Freeman having always been a 3B in waiting.

Matt Adams is perfect trade bait. Perfect age, made changes to his body to improve his conditioning, plays good D, and is now fulfilling his promise at the plate. Braves do not have enough to contend this season. Sell at the perceived high, whether that be at the trade deadline or in the off-season. There is still a year of team control and he will be in his best position to strike a long term deal with the buyer. A strong trade may be enough to put the Braves over the top as a long term playoff contender. JMO.

This is why I would find a way to keep him in the lineup and not trade him. His bat has been very good since he came to ATL. Add in Freeman, and that's 3 huge bats you have to pitch to. Kemp is swinging a hot bat this year, and we all know what Freddie was doing before his injury. Get the pitching straightened out, get to .500 by Allstar break, and this team has an outside chance to get hot the 2nd half of the year and make a run at a wild card spot.

Good points, too.

Problem is, it's most guaranteed that they're going to trade Phillips and Jaime Garcia. Might trade Markakis also. So even if they keep Adams, if they trade those guys, that's two hot bats and one of our SP that we would have to replace. Both Phillips and Markakis are batting 300, not easy to replace. On top of that, who knows what they would do about replacing Garcia. If Colon is in the rotation we won't contend at all. On top of all of this, the bullpen would need big time improvement to be a playoff threat. It just seems like there are too many needs to seriously be in playoff contention this year and risk switching Freddie and doing all of that. But who knows. This is a difficult decision to make. But I'm sure we can bank on at least Phillips being going before the deadline. That's going to happen

I dont understand why everybody is so scared of putting Freddie at third. He is athletic and what's the worst that can happen? If you have a chance to keep Adams bat in the line up, why not try it?

Mainly two reasons for me. One, Freddie is one of the best players in baseball. What if moving his position affected his hitting as has happened with some players in the past? Second, history isn't on Adams' side. What if this is just a hot month and next month he'll go back down to a sub .250 hitter. If he does, then we've missed a window of high trade value for him. If we trade him now, the return could be pretty good verses later if he doesn't keep this up

Regardless of whether Dobbs did a good enough job changing plays or not, there were still too many times over the pas two years where our linemen were simply beat by the man they were responsible for.

You can have the perfect protection called and it doesn't make a lick of difference if a DL blows by his man and is closing in on the QB within two seconds of the snap.

Busts are gonna happen occasionally, but I don't think anyone can make a very good argument that they haven't happened too often in pass pro over the past two seasons for us.

Switching positions is not going to hurt Freddie at the plate. Best case we get two hot bats in the line up. Worst case Adams slumps and we move him to the bench and Freddie goes back to first. I don't think you will get as much in a trade as you think you would. Best to hold onto him and let him stay in his groove.

Adams is streaky. That's why the Cardinals traded him. Maybe he has changed and will be more consistent. I will be interested to see how he is hitting in August.

Maybe because he is a first basemen. 3rd is way different. If he throws it well, he will be fine there. It is not that easy a transition, but Freddie is a great player, so I think he will likely be able to do that.

How in the world do you have any idea that he would be garbageat 3B, lol? You have never seen him play it. He is very athletic. He is a great fielder at 1B. Can he throw it well? So there is a reasonable assumption that given opportunity to work at it he could possibly play the position. Guess we will see.

Let's hope Chandler is really the 5th best true freshman RB in the country and Kelly and him can catch the ball out of the backfield and be a reasonable facsimile of Kamara, in that regard

Would be nice to see some of JK's touches show out in the passing game. Might mean less wear and tear for him.

My son and I had this discussion last night - he agrees with you and thinks the Braves may be showing Freddie working out at 3rd so potential trade teams think the Braves don't have to trade when F comes back - keeps Adams' trade value up.

That's a good theory
