Regardless of whether Dobbs did a good enough job changing plays or not, there were still too many times over the pas two years where our linemen were simply beat by the man they were responsible for.

You can have the perfect protection called and it doesn't make a lick of difference if a DL blows by his man and is closing in on the QB within two seconds of the snap.

Busts are gonna happen occasionally, but I don't think anyone can make a very good argument that they haven't happened too often in pass pro over the past two seasons for us.

I agree for the most part. I am trying to make the point that unless we break every play down and know how to do that, we do not know if it was a protection call issue or bad play by the O-line due to incompetency or injury. We do know from an offensive lineman that played 3 years with Dobbs that he rarely changed the calls. He wished Dobbs had done so. Ainge also made the same point. Another option is that some of it can also be whether Butch and staff recruited to his system well or not. Probably a combination of all of it.

In general, I just find it funny at times that posters say the O-line is bad when the offense finished as high as it did in the stats. Nothing happens right on offense if the O-line is not doing doing at least an adequate job. 36 points a game did not happen only because Dobbs was Superman or Kamara was greased lightning. They needed blocking to go with it.

Would be nice to see some of JK's touches show out in the passing game. Might mean less wear and tear for him.

Was thinking that too. I am thinking a min of 25 touches during the early part of the season against GT, FL, GA or as many as is needed to win. Don't want to overwork him, but may need it especially if the Freshmen aren't ready to go with pass pro. and may still be learning the offense. Perhaps can back off so many touches after bye week. This is assuming that CFA may be less effective as JK. Hopefully, CFA takes up AK mantle and brings it.

So your logic is blame the oline despite knowing that dobbs didn't correct the protection that originated from a call that the oline didn't make? Lol. K.

My son and I had this discussion last night - he agrees with you and thinks the Braves may be showing Freddie working out at 3rd so potential trade teams think the Braves don't have to trade when F comes back - keeps Adams' trade value up.

Could be. Good observation.

Mainly two reasons for me. One, Freddie is one of the best players in baseball. What if moving his position affected his hitting as has happened with some players in the past? Second, history isn't on Adams' side. What if this is just a hot month and next month he'll go back down to a sub .250 hitter. If he does, then we've missed a window of high trade value for him. If we trade him now, the return could be pretty good verses later if he doesn't keep this up

I agree. Trade Adams and Phllips. Being up oz and play Freddie at first. Deal Garcia and start using pitchers to get feet wet. Too many holes in that pen to contend and closer is barely adequate.

Agreed. Can sure up bullpen in trades. They need a true closer not sure if they have on in the minors or not.

One more time on this O-line thing and I am done. Many posters do not full understand how much play and protection calls affects team and individual performance.

Example: Your RT, Hall, has a shoulder injury that restricts his ability to extend his outside arm on pass rushes to the outside. Or insert Kendrick with a high ankle sprain that reduces his quickness on the outside set. The opponent has observed this in past game film and heard injury reports. They align their D to speed rush to the outside of the RT while overloading that side with rushers to make double teams impossible unless the play call has a TE or RB sliding over. They don't yell across the LOS and tell our guys they are going to do it, they disguise it until the last second. Dobbs has to recognize that shift and change either the play call to a different play or to a different protection. Now apply that thought process across the board at every O-line position.

That the RT gets beat without the change will look bad on him when he really did the best he could under the circumstances. This is what Ainge and Kerby were alluding to when it came to Dobbs. He will have to learn to make those calls if he wants to stick with the Steelers. Odds are he would have been more confident about it at UT if he had been coached up by a real QB coach.

I hope the Braves aren't serious about that. Freeman would be garbage at third. They need to trade Adams asap while his value is at its peak. No way that guy keeps it up.

Just because you haven't seen him play 3rd doesn mean he would be garbage at it. Don't know anything about him besides that he can hit since I don't follow braves buts 1st and 3rd have alotnof the same skill sets needed to play either base. If he has a strong arm and quick feet/reflexes he will be fine. You have to play your top guys however you make it work and sometimes that means sacrificing one thing for another.

That Florida line is insane, especially since they had us as one point favorites over Georgia. I hope they feed the Florida hype all summer and they get blown out by Michigan, Florida State, and we wtmfa in the Swamp, followed by a six win season and the Birmingham bowl. Then probation.
