Experts at Salon made both Page and Butler and All American. I'd say the experts at 247 missed those two. Butler will be a baller here. I'd bet Jones and Murphy's ranking was due to their grade concerns. Turn the tape on, they don't play like 3 stars either. I don't know why Labruzza is a 3 star, but he seems to be better than that and the coaches are already raving about him.

I said with the exception of a few guys. Maybe those guys fit the bill (esp Butler), maybe not.

Tape is great and all, and a useful tool to give context, but highlight packages aren't conclusive.

Again, I hope those rationalizing their way to 2017 being more than a depth class are correct.

Dingle and Jones seem to be the most likely candidates at LB, iirc.

opinion varies on why we might be struggling. some think Thig is slipping a bit on the recruiting front, cause we're really not in on any big time recruits. Jubinor (sp) is probably the one we might have the best shot at, but all things point to him going to Auburn....and it's a ? as to whether he's an end or olb.

others think it's just a matter of priority, and we have talent already here for the next two years, and can have a little softer class at LB, just need some depth, and have other priorities to fill with this cycle.

So in these "depth" classes what kind of players do you recruit? Do you recruit guys that can only fill in and be non-starters or what? I need an explanation on this. This has DOOLEY written all over it.

i was just offering a couple of answers to the guys question. i'm not supporting or panning either opinion.

i do think that they have decided that one area they absolutely have to get better in is on the LOS on both sides of the ball, and that's pretty clear to me. and yes, it does seem to be at the expense of a couple of positions, LB and CB to name two. i also lean toward thinking Thig may not be as good a recruiter as he once was.

i'm expecting maybe a couple of position changes along the way to address some of those issues possibly, especially LB. and we see what Warren can do with the crop of CB's on the roster.

One group shouldn't stop us from being able to concentrate on all other positions on the team. We've got a lot of coaches. Neglecting the LBs for the line is crazy. Especially when we have better line talent than LB talent.

A big mess? Come on man. That is a great show, and I'm a book hawk.

No doubt. I love the show. I am just a purist who had to bring my rule about not seeing a movie before I read the book. I am glad that I watched because it is terrific. I just hope that there weren't too many spoilers.

Aren't the books extremely more detailed though? Can't get myself to sit down and read them is why I ask. The show is best on tv easily

again, im not really endorsing it, just explaining it.

it's not a secret we have had depth issues on O line and D line. they're obviously addressing that.

LB and CB will be the next two positions that suffer if not addressed, and it looks like it may require some really high level talent to come in and do that in one of the next two cycles. and right now, it looks like next cycle.

unless, as i stated, we see some guys moved to LB that are in this class, or currently on the roster.

The main arc is going to be the same. That has been said by GRRM and the producers for a while. They know the ending of the book story arc, and they are not going to change it much, of course tons of character arcs are going to be different

Yes, agree with you here... I hope the '17 "depth class" doesn't come back to bite us... there is a gap in the LB progression and we are hoping the new kids coming in will develop quickly... We need another Kirkland Jr or JRM type kid coming in... I do think Sapp will surprise some folks now that he is healthy, and who knows, maybe we get a few quality snaps out of Bates before he graduates ...

it's going to test that "diamond in the rough" strategy for sure. i do think there are some good players in that group, and they aren't going to be asked to be contributors right away, so if there's one thing on our side, it's time, relatively speaking anyway.

this class on the other hand really has a chance to set a pretty good foundation, and while it doesn't necessarily address every need, again, team 121 and 122 in many ways are going to look and feel a lot alike.

we'll see where we are depth wise for 123, 124 and beyond with 17, 18 and 19 cycles....

i don't think it's all doom and gloom recruiting wise. but there are going to still be some positional depth issues needing addressed, that you would think shouldn't be there 5, 6 + years in. and who knows what might change and transpire over the next 6-18 months...we'll see.

They are long and detailed, but very entertaining. Not laborious to read at all. I have both read them and listened to them on Audible. Either way is great.

Yes, the bottom line is we are 5+ years in and are still not as balanced as I think we should be. Folks can deny it or sweep it under the carpet, but the way the second half of the season ended and coaching rumors, it certainly didn't help us in recruiting as we can see with the '17 class... There are not many elite recruits willing to take a chance jumping into a seemingly unstable situation... WE know part of the problem was an enormous amount of injuries, but recruits don't necessarily weigh that in when deciding... We are more of a stable ship at this point in the year and recruits are now willing to take that chance... UT has to figure out a way to keep recruiting on the upside, and unfortunately most of that problem is solved by winning... but we can't win if we don't have the talent--- so goes the cart before the horse that sux... we have to maximize the talent we have this year, win the games we are supposed to, and pick up at least one or two we are not, and I think we will finish strong for '18.
