Considering the narrative that follows cbj around wherever he goes, I'm really impressed with how he and this staff have done so far on this class. Really.Yes, the bottom line is we are 5+ years in and are still not as balanced as I think we should be. Folks can deny it or sweep it under the carpet, but the way the second half of the season ended and coaching rumors, it certainly didn't help us in recruiting as we can see with the '17 class... There are not many elite recruits willing to take a chance jumping into a seemingly unstable situation... WE know part of the problem was an enormous amount of injuries, but recruits don't necessarily weigh that in when deciding... We are more of a stable ship at this point in the year and recruits are now willing to take that chance... UT has to figure out a way to keep recruiting on the upside, and unfortunately most of that problem is solved by winning... but we can't win if we don't have the talent--- so goes the cart before the horse that sux... we have to maximize the talent we have this year, win the games we are supposed to, and pick up at least one or two we are not, and I think we will finish strong for '18.
I'm confused about talent on this roster...I know stars aren't the only measure but what am I missing (Bates/John Kelly). Our starting 11 is either a 4* or a veteran 3* that has played over 4* at some point
QB - 4* that everyone in country wanted. Either of them
RB - I get depth is a worry but Kelly/Chandler are nice.
WR - Jennings/Byrd/Callaway all 4*, JSmith is a 3+ year starter, plus BJohnson showed flashses, and RS/newcomers.
TE - 4 year starter plus Jakob, Eli and RS.
OL - 6th most starts in NCAA with (1) 5*, 4 year starter (3 star), (2) 4* and some combo of Brett kendrick, who is a multi year starter, Coleman Thomas, multi year starter, plus Venzell, Marcus Tatum, and Chance Hall. Lastly, we have RS 4* Ryan Johnson and newcomers
DE - (3) 4* plus newcomers, depth a concern
DT - 5*, 4*, 2 year starter in Vickers, JuCo 4*, a Jr who was most improved in spring in Picou, plus newcomers. Injuries a concern.
LB - (4) 4* plus Colton, El Berry, and RS/newcomers. We only play 2 most of the time
CB/Nickle - (4) 4* pluis Moseley and newcomers
S - (4) 4* plus newcomers
Our starting 11 on defense should be (10) 4* and Vickers. Or it could be another 4*
Are you basing this opinion because of the offense we run?
Basing this off making Alabama bring a MLB out of coverage to account in the passing game. That's how you can attack them successfully all game. Reason they couldn't stop Clemson two years straight. Reason Ole Miss gives them problems(2-1 vs Bama the last 3 years).
I think this year's experienced line will be able to protect the QB better than you think. Besides how are you going to pull a QB throwing for 300+ yards a game BB?
By the way, if you ever get to Nashville, I may have a couple of clients for you.
I'm awaiting word right now. But what happens if your boy lays an egg early versus Ga.Tech like Barnett was doing for Alabama last year Game 1? Will Jones put JG in like Saban did with Hurts or will he ride it out? I'm curious.....
