Let him transfer if that's what he wants. If #12 wins and JG transfers then what? Same thing right, if either transfer from not being the starter then it is what it is.

I don't think JG transfers if Dormady gets the job. That's the difference. JG is a redshirt freshman. He's got plenty of time. Dormady waited his turn and I don't think JG has a problem waiting another year, especially if he knows he was truly beaten out by Dormady for the job. Maybe Dormady would wait until the end of the year to transfer, but I doubt it.

in the last 5ish years it's taken acts of God to beat Bama in the SEC. the kick 6, both Ole Miss losses were on flukes, never to be repeated in those seasons. even the aTm loss a few years ago was solely due to the miracles johnny football threw up and were answered.

there's been exactly two teams line up and beat Bama...Clemson and Ohio State. you can throw OU in there as well, but playing devil's advocate, Bama had higher sights than the sugar bowl that year....and fell victim to the "the team that wants to be here more" adage...if you believe that kinda stuff.

Clemson and Ohio State both had mobile QB's. I'm even going back to Tebow. In fact, I can't think of a traditional QB that has won vs. Saban at Bama except maybe LSU years ago or maybe somebody I'm forgetting during his first year there.

If he can tee off on your RBs you won't run the ball. Once that happens he just sits everyone back and keeps the safeties over the top because his CB still play that outdated trail technique. That's why the CBs are garbage as pros or take years to get any good(Ex: Dre Kirkpatrick).

I think we have two really good options at QB. Play the guy who gives you the best chance to win. I don't really care which one of them wins the job.

I am optimistic that once Guarantano is ready he has the potential to take this offense to a different level, but the coaches are in a much better position than I am to make the call on whether he is there yet or not.

Unless he's so much faster from his first two years until now then #12 isn't fast at all. Small school and slow defenses were running him down in garbage time.

All I said its that he is better athletically than some think, not that he s the next cam Newton. And really his athleticism probably won't help him running the ball as much as it will managing the pocket and having some escapability.... He doesn't have to have the spectacular running plays to be successful... Like Dobbs did...

The same is true for JG.

So JG transfers, sits out transfer year and is eligible at his new school the same year Dormady is graduated from here? And not even considering that he could overtake Dormady at any point. Would be a dumb move and I think you know that...you're just throwing em off your back foot when you're desperate, huh? :)

Cardale Jones is slow...ran a 4.8 at the NFL Shorts Olympics. Tom Herman adjusted the offense to his strengths and Bama lost.

Yet how did both teams beat them?

Its not like qbs were just running around all over them.

And honestly, what teams don't have trouble with good mobile qbs? GA had no answer for Dobbs...FL struggled With him. Everybody struggled with manziel, Newton, mariota, Watson, tebow etc.... Its not unique to bama...

Just looking at how bama had lost games in the sec, the last 3-5 years, there haven't been any that just line up and do it... They turned it over what 6 times against ole miss a couple years ago... Had the crazy deflected td pass the other game... The kick 6 against auburn...

You get the idea.

But this notion that you absolutely need a mobile QB to beat them....meh. You need an offensive line that can hold up against their front 7....

Like last year... How many defensive and special teams tds did they get?

LSU has had defenses that can match up against them..... They have not had offensive line or a QB that could match up against their front....

Nah Ohio State was a better team period. They didn't overlook a thing.

OU QB Knight is a proven dual threat.

Clemson had a dual-threat in Watson.

Ole Miss winning two in a row and dropping 40 on Bama last year isn't a fluke. People need to give them credit for exposing the weakness of that defense. Had Kelly had any sense they would've won last year. They also gave up a STs TD as well while losing by 6.

Exposed? To what extent? Ole miss shot their wad in the first half of that game, with some help from bama mistakes, and had no answers the rest of the way.

Cardale Jones rushed like 17 times for 43 yds vs. Bama on 2015. And Watson ran for 43 yds and a TD in the national championship game last year. Not exactly statuesque.

I'm not saying that a mobile QB is a MUST HAVE in order to beat Bama, but it certainly helps if your QB is a threat to run if necessary. Don't believe me? Go back and look at their losses since Saban took the helm and see for yourself.

My only fear if JG wins the job is that QD will transfer (he will, no doubt) and then if JG gets hurt which he has a history of doing, we're trotting freshman Will McBride out there. That's a quick way to a bad season. Regardless if we believe McBride has potential, he's not ready to play in the SEC. I'd feel less concerned if Dormady won the job this year, he a good year like Mitch Trubisky and got drafted, and then JG takes over next year when Penix and Martinez are here to go along with McBride as back ups. I mean, if JG is truly better, let's go, but let's pray he doesn't get hurt

I'm thinking Dormady starts against Georgia Tech with Guarantano getting a few snaps depending on how the game goes. Could see Tennessee running a two Qb system for at least the first couple of games.

Catbone is Jimmy Hyams. Jimmy just said 7-5.

I think 9-3 but I also am starting to see this as an all or nothing year. We have talent, sure. But the negativity in the media and fanbase is going to be almost unbearable, especially if we take a few losses early. Texas lost to Kansas last year. Anything can happen when everything falls apart.

If Tennessee starts slow out of the gate and drops a couple early, I honestly could see the wheels falling off. All the hot seat talk and media hate will be at an all time high. Georgia Tech game will be a bellweather game for this season IMO. Cautiously optimistic though.

I didn't hear the teams. I am assuming those you mentioned and then one of GA Tech, KY, SC.

Those three and Fl, GA and LSU........at worst......split 3/3. That's 8-4 all day long. Which is what most have been saying. 8-4 is the floor. 7-5? Not only will Butch need to be fired but anyone who has anything to do with the Athletic Department.

Maybe my shades have gotten too orange colored, but I just can't see it. I'm having a lot of trouble seeing 8-4 as a viable option.

Anything less that 8-4 and his rear end should be fired. Going 6-6 or 7-5 at Tennessee in your 5th year would be completely unacceptable. There's no way anyone could make the argument that Jones is a championship caliber coach if that's what we do this year. However, I don't think that will happen.

Wasn't he running over Landon Collins for some reason?

Dude, you're the one who's always talking about putting on the tape. No one has ever mistaken Jones for dual threat or even mobile. And if you wanna look at stats, Jones had 17 carries for 43 yards. 27 came on one run. Dude was not a threat.

You know what happened that game. OSU lined up and punched Bama in the mouth over and over with Elliot then hit some deep throws to Smith. It was as traditional as it gets. Not many teams can do that, but it can be done.

Yep. But I just don't see it happening that way in the end. too much talent and I think Butch has built a durable culture (unlike Dooley). I also thing the defense rebounds in a major way with healthy bodies. We will see!
