The running start? That doesn't make any sense. What running start? The RB is lined up at about the same depth whether in shotgun or under center. As a matter of fact, the RB has an advantage in shotgun because they don't have to find the QB for the handoff. They can keep their eyes upfield.

LOL it's the opposite of what you just said. In the zone read, the RB is standing still when he gets the ball instead of running toward the LOS. He never has to find the qb, he knows from the play call where the qb will be handing him the ball.

I was pretty amazed at what Bentley did last year considering he was supposed to be in middle school. By the time he actually hits puberty he will have broken most of Peyton Manning's NFL records.

Apparently you haven't heard, but that crap about him only being 10 years old when he signed with South Carolina is a bunch of crap. He was actually 19 years old when he started middle school. He just missed the cutoff for kindergarten by one week and was 7 years old when he started. His parents then held him back 5 years so he could beat the hell out of other Pee Wee teams in the hopes of receiving a scholarship offer from Lane Kiffin before he finished elementary school. He then took the Chris Weinke route and played minor league baseball out of high school for several years. He was actually 36 years old when he signed with South Carolina. Sometimes people get him confused with his 17 year old son and think he's much younger than he is.

247 has created a workplace of negativity it seems to me.

Callahan has always kinda been a pessimistic dude but not really negative.

It seems to me like Ramey and Brown have become more annoying since they went over to 247. I thought Brice was becoming somewhat of a pot stirrer before he left. Wes just plain sucks and always has.

You disagree with the fact that we ran the ball?

This whole post is confirmation. There have been QBs who weren't much of a threat to run who have run zone read style spread offenses like ours just fine. Cherry picking some stats doesn't change the fact that the 2013 offense with Worley was pretty good, all things considered.

We ran for 178 against Oregon, 187 against UGA, and 146 against USCe. UF was terrible, of course. But they were top 5 in total defense that year and knew they could sell out against the run and not worry about the pass (plus there was the whole Peterman/Worley QB controversy at that point...we all remember how Peterman looked that game).

1) what other qbs who werent mobile have successfully run the read option offense for an extended period?

2) look at a broader sample size. In games when Dobbs hardly kept the ball, look how our offense struggled. And look how it changed the instant Dobbs started keeping the ball. Having a running threat at QB in this offense is absolutely essential to sustain offensive success throughout a game and throughout a season. Even in those games you cited, look how bad our offense was except for UGA. Citing rushing stats doesn't tell the whole story in a blowout loss against Oregon, and our offense was pretty bad against USC despite the rushing yards.

You're oversimplifying it by saying the offense doesn't need a mobile qb because we had decent rushing yards in those games. And it took us 40 attempts to get those yards against USC. That's not productive, successful offense that's capable of winning championships, and my point is that this offense can't take us to that level without a mobile qb. Dormady can take us to that level, but not with a zone read. Imo

Brown went from my favorite to borderline I won't read him anymore. Not just negativity, just not good anymore.

Hes never been my cup of tea. He also is like Wes in that he thinks it's impossible to cover a team that you might half way like. I've seen him take shots at people who may be somewhat fans of the Vols and cover them. Just seemed like a douchey thing to do.

If I was VQ I'd hire away Callahan and let the rest of those turds sink that ship.

I was seriously bummed when 247 poached him from the TFP. Why do they need four people writing clickbait non-stop about the Vols?

Patrick is honestly too good for that place. He should have been Paul Fortenberry's replacement at VQ, although Jesse Simonton is doing a pretty good job.

So many of the Vols beat writers seem to have this complex about being Serious Sports Journalists™, but most of them just write clickbait now. No one cares if they're "objective" about the team they cover, and most of them swing too far in the other direction and think obvious pessimism=fairness and unbiased reporting.

Seems like 247 is only clickbait articles anymore. Anything that I may want to read is behind a pay wall so I don't read it anyway. I just go there now to check the crystal balls.

Yeah, the message board is crap and ridiculously cluttered too. Oh, and you get bombarded with autoplaying videos starring some dude with a horrible whiny and nasally voice. It's just terrible now.

That whole "I'm media so I'm unbiased so I have to prove it by being overly negative about the team I cover" thing is so obnoxious. If you're not intelligent enough and self aware enough to wrote objectively about something you like, you shouldn't be a journalist. Be a fan, be objective, you can do both.

Of all the important things media people today suck at and don't care, they cling so tightly to that desperate attempt at appearing unbiased when it's not needed.
