Miscellaneous SEC news from the internet -

Former Gator quarterback John Reaves died yesterday at age 67. He had a history of battling drugs and alcohol. (He was the father of Layla Kiffin).

Meanwhile, former Kentucky quarterback Jared Lorenzen apparently ballooned to 500 pounds last year! Someone is making a reality show about him as he tries to lose hundreds of pounds. (I am pretty sure he could pass a football if he could swallow it).

We now return to your regularly scheduled bashing.

One thing?

Does your memory not go back far enough to remember Butch's "pocket list?" Or how his first three years here he would always lament the media picking UT "last in the east" (which was never true, but we gave him the benefit of the doubt at the time).

Look, I'll admit that vol Twitter and the media have been unfair to Butch at times. But the guy has also opened himself up to a lot of criticism at the same time.

They aren't talking about a pocket list, they aren't talking about him and the east picks. They are talking about him stating the negative spin on everything he says which is entirely true.

9 times out of 10, the criticism of Butch is out of context and ridiculous. It's turned into the boy who cried wolf. One of the latest one was a bullet point that said 3 straight bowl victories out of a dozen. Why is that a story? It's childish.

Are there some moments where criticism is warranted? Yes. 100% yes. But the criticism is at every corner and most of it is unsubstantiated. Hell, we all complain about it here and have been for years. Why isn't Butch allowed to say one or two things throughout his career when Saban does it every time he hits the podium?

There are different types of criticism. The media and VolTwitter prefer the childish version. They should try the constructive kind. It goes over a whole lot better.

Chills.

One of those rare moments in life that you know where you were and who you were with when it happened.

Hyperbole.

Did you think the recent 247 article about his speech was unfair or his words were twisted?

My only point is that he needs to learn to just leave it alone sometimes and look forward, not backward.

It's a snake-bitten route both ways with our media. You tried to squash the negativity like Butch has been doing and you get what's happening right now where they complain about it. If he just continues on and tries to look forward and leave it alone as you say then they will complain about him not talking about it.

Lying on the floor after I jumped the coffee table! It was the most unbelievable thing I've seen from UT.

Music City Miracle and DNB rank as the best two finishes I can remember.

Constructive criticism: While Butch has done an admirable job in increasing the talent and win total on Rocky Top, no one would argue that there have been too many opportunities slip through the fingertips and they need to find a way to take the program to the next step.

Standard media criticism: oh noes!

Do you even Stoerner Stumble, bro?

I was talking to my Arkansas buddy the other day. He said they did a Top 25 Arkansas games on their SEC Takeover Day. Guess which game was #1? I couldn't believe that was the #1 game for Arkansas? Lol.

That's madness.

Could you imagine TN FL 2015 being that for us?

I was talking purely towards his reputation as being thin skinned (which I believe is not unwarranted). You can shift the goalposts of that conversation all you want, but can't say that Butch has only ever made one comment that came off as thin skinned.

I'm sure you would be perfectly graceful if you had a group of media bombarding you with insults daily, nitpicking everything you say, at your job.

I don't think grace has anything to do with it, really. I just don't think CBJ is a very good public speaker or good at responding to being put on the spot in an interview format. That's probably a big part of why he defaults to slogans and catch phrases in interviews.
