Idk if it has already been discussed but we had the most lost starts due to injury.. I believe Hurd isn't accounted for.

"But Florida had just as many injuries and still won the East!!!"

It's funny when people say this considering they had less injuries and lost 3 of their last 5 games (excluding the long break for bowl game) and got dominated by bama just as bad as we did.

That should be at the top of "reasons why Tennessee might finish similar or even better this year" and "reasons why Tennessee went 9-4 in 2016" lists. (Actually, we shouldn't have managed 9-4 with that kind of lost starts).

Eh, I'm seeing that we shouldn't have been 9-4 with the injuries we had, or similar talk. Well, we were 5-0 before the injuries really started to get absurd. After that, we beat Tennessee Tech, Missouri, and Kentucky. For the bowl, we had a bit more time to mend and adjust. That type of talk isn't fully thought through.

It's like people forget we had Jrm, Sutton, Sapp and Kirkland out vs UF and Uga too. That's 3 of our top 4 LB's, 3 of our 4 best defensive guys, 2 of our captains and still beat both of them. Out of that team we lost Malone, Croom, Dobbs, Kamara, Hurd(he hurt us just as much as helped in the Uga game), Barnett, DOB. We have proven player(s) behind every player we lost except Dobbs. I'm not sure how people think we go 6-6, especially since we upgraded multiple coaches on the staff

These last two links - the one on DB and this last one on lost starts - should be linked together and tell everybody why we will be better this season.

DB - no excuses, work harder than everybody else, low maintenance, do your job plus some. DB did it on his own and is now making millions. He gave his all on the field, in the S&C, played through injuries, took care of business in the classroom, and stayed out of trouble. The same cannot be said of some of the others.

Fast forward to now. Rock has changed the toughness of the S&C - that sets the tone and reduces the injuries. It appears the classroom and staying out of trouble are good. Now it's about the field. Put in the work, be low maintenance, do your jobs.

Agree with this. Although we did have some big injuries vs UF and Uga, plus Hurd happening vs uga. You could definitely make an argument for why we should have lost one of those games with the injuries we had

This is why I can't understand the low expectations for this team. I just don't understand where this dramatic drop off is coming from. We should be better lol

Any time you have a new qb, it's a question mark. And losing DB and Kamara is reason enough for concern. I predict there will be a small drop off on offense and a big improvement on defense.

kamara was huge for us but at the same time wasnt even used that much. Pretty crazy.

Yea. Only had 3 touches vs UF last year, like 6 vs VT. Only got 20+ touches vs Uga and A&M bcuz of Hurd. And even when Kelly started playing good Kamara touches went down to around 10-15, which just just shows how good Kelly is imo

Butch Jones playing CB is concerning. I know it's a process and he's young, but I just don't see the talent in him.

Balky knee and all

these young Freshman and sophomore WRs are very exciting just in terms of quickness and athleticism. Callaway, Johnson, Williams, Palmer, Murphy, Fant, Jones.
