Returning production is another metric that people look at - after talent. The general consensus seems to be that talent trumps experience.

Florida returns 81% of its offensive production and 53% of its defensive production giving it a total overall returning production of 67% which ranks #50 in the nation according to Bill Connelly.

Michigan returns 46% of its offensive production and 22% of its defensive production giving it a total overall returning production of 34% which ranks #127 in the nation.

Georgia Tech returns 62% of its offensive production and 82% of its defensive production giving it a total overall returning production of 72% which ranks #29 in the nation.

Tennessee returns 42% of its offensive production and 61% of its defensive production giving it at total overall returning production of 51% which ranks #109 in the nation.

this is true about GT however on defense they lost their two best DT and best LB.

Can you do this for all of our opponents? Thank you Chat.

Yeah, I'll put that on my list of things to think about doing. :)
I did I think what D4H did - just looking at the recruiting classes - only I used rivals because 247 didn't have the rosters up at the time - or maybe I just couldn't find them. Anyway, I'll get right on this - thinking about meeting your request, that is. :)

Yeah, I didn't think they were very good on defense anyway and I expect our talent advantage be extremely obvious, at least that's what I'm hoping for.

i agree

all this talk about their unique offense but i think we can keep their Defense on the field for the majority. That would be my plan. Im not sure how they will stop us at all.

UF's offense is going to be bad, especially the 1st game of the season, their defense is definitely going to take a step back. And with Harbaugh (the much better coach) having all off season to prepare, I think the Wolverines come out and make a statement.

I just can't see UF scoring many points at all and Michigan should be able to put up points. I'm thinking something like 38-13.

You may be right. It won't be long before we find out. I was in Ann Arbor in 2014/15 for a project. I went to the minnesota game at the big house - the concussion game. I figured they were going to win 10 games in 2015 - even if Brady hadn't been fired. Brady built a good defense but he wasn't going to have an offensive line until the 2015 season. Harbaugh got the benefit of that. I'm not comparing the coaches but when someone like Butch says it's a process - dammit, it's a process.

Imagine what our talent and returning production is likely to be next year - and then think about the idiots who want to take that away from Butch and give it to someone new. smh.

This discussion reminds me of when we played Oregon in 2013. We calculated how we would beat them or at least make it close because the average recruiting rankings of our starting 22 were higher than theirs.

There's really only so much the past recruiting rankings can tell you about a team.

Lol -7.5 would be easy

The point is this board is acting as if the national media is lazy for hyping the Gators when the experts in the desert think they are 1.5 games better than is And that is with a much harder schedule

I think Vegas had us at 9.5 and the gators at 7.5 last year. Might be wrong

Speaking of best 22, I listened to a clip of Austin Price on the radio yesterday and he talked about that. I think the question was, "What have you learned about this team so far after a week into camp?" And Austin said he remembers talking about how last year the starting 22 could go up against anyone but after that there was a drop but he said this team has much more talented depth. Anyway, I thought that was encouraging to hear from someone who covers the team closely.

I remember those days. :eek:lol:

Like the man said, that was then, this is now. We've improved. Now we don't just look at recruiting rankings, we look at who we recruited that is still on the roster.

TBH, I've looked at talent levels, experience, and injuries, and I'm still trying to come up with the holy grail that can predict game outcomes better than the usual suspects. Strength of schedule should be a factor I guess and different positions should be weighted differently, plus the intangibles - like how much sleep is our team getting, things like that. :) I'm going to keep working on this until kickoff in Atlanta then I'll just let whatever happens on the field stand for itself.

If Zaire starts for UF they will be one dimensional- he will be a running QB. He can't throw.

Good. Let him try to run. Smack him down. Punch him in the mouth. Let him rue the day he was born. Force him to curl up into a fetal position in the middle of the field and beg for mercy.

What are you guys expecting the passing game to look like? Scott seems like more of a pro style guy and both QBs look like they have more arm talent than Dobbs. The offensive line should be good enough to not have AppState and Ohio level defenders in our QB's face. Losing Malone hurts, but I really like this group of receivers. They obviously needs some experience, though.

Florida's offensive production was offensive.

lol I forgot about that

Ainge was talking about this topic on his show this morning. I agree with him. They're just whining because they got out-performed by Hurts. Still, if it gives Bama a little bad pub, I am all for it.

It's bad pub for Saban but it also reinforces an idea that may already be on the mind of Hurts. Saban may have made promises to Tua and since Saban is on record for saying Hurts wasn't developed as a QB last year - well like Barnett said, he knew right away he would be transferring. Anything that can reinforce the idea that Saban is not to be trusted by his players can only help to disrupt the machine he has built down there.

A lot of these very talented players that Bama stocks on its roster go there unitentionally to watch their dreams of making it to the NFL die. I don't guess you can fault Saban. There's not a lot of drop off, if any, if and when you are forced to go to next man up and besides, he gets to keep these guys off his opponents rosters. While they would be stars and likely high draft picks if they had gone elsewhere, they ride the pine for him until their dreams eventually turn into nightmares.

Oregon was the exception, not the norm though.

I heard a discussion about this on local radio this morning. It appears that Saban was not quite honest with them and then when Barnett transferred after game 4, Saban ripped him publicly.

I thought about Butch's handling of Hurd and the public comments that ensued. I don't ever think I heard one negative thing from Butch yet, he still got ripped for the situation. Kind of pissed me off comparing the two situations. Just win, baby, and you can do anything you want.
