Need to start getting some of those prospects ready for the bigtime, like Newcomb. Dickey and Colon are too old, and need to hang it up. Teheran has been pretty meh this year. Foltynewicz looked to be coming on nicely his last 2 starts, until he was hammered last night by the Nats.

Tehran was supposed to be the best pitching prospect in a decade. He's been pretty disappointing

Took me almost 10 years to hit 1000 posts. So on the monumental day I would like to say.

All you negavols can suck it. We're back baby!!!!

Also is there a rule that if you claim to be a coach and post here you have to be a douche??

They've got them. That's the point. They are loaded in the minors with pitching prospects. It's bats they are lacking now at the minor league level. Phillips will be gone next year, Markakis and Kemp maybe too, that leaves Swanson, Inciarte, Freddie and maybe Tyler Flowers at the core. Albies hasn't been setting the world on fire. Ruiz has shown promise. The pitching prospects are there, who are the hitters?

I wouldnt worry about Albies, he is coming off a pretty major injury. I thought they should have held him out till the All Star Break. As far as Hitters go they have Acuna, Alex Jackson, Demmerit( I spelled that wrong), Austin Riley, Christian Pache, maitan( though we don't know how hes gonna be yet)Randy ventura, Seymore. I would say those are all pretty good hitters whith Acuna and Matian being possible big time hitters. I agree they need ore high end hitters in the system though. Part of their stat isto draft pitchers and trade for hitters because they think pitchers will bring more value back in trades. I don't really agree with that unless you are talking about MLB proven pitchers like Sale. We will see how it all pans out in a couple more years.

Agree partially. Problem is Maitan is only 16 or 17. I think Demerritte is pretty young too. Director of scouting explained that in baseball, pitching is like cash. You can buy a lot with pitching prospects. they want to find hitters through trades rather than taking a lot of chances on hitters in the draft unless it's a can't miss hitter. If it's a great hitting prospect they won't pass him up they said, but if not, they'll take the best pitcher.

FYP also cangrats

Good pitching will always beat good hitting - and vice versa.

That's always been there contention yet they have on WS championship in 95. Their pitching has always petered out in a short series but has been good for a regular season run.

From Athlon SEC:

"Walt Wells has said he'll pick the five best players and go from there, and it's a good bet senior Jashon Robertson will be among them. Robertson, a 6'3" 305-pound guard, is regarded as the leader in the offensive line meeting room. As much as anyone, Robertson has benefited from the addition of Rock Gullickson as head strength coach, with his diet and body undergoing a makeover since last season."
(emphasis, mine.)

Encouraging news, IMO.

I agree. Couldn't help feeling like they weren't getting the most out of Robertson last season. Maybe it was because he was having to make up for guys on one side or the other struggling at times, but I was disappointed by his play in 2016.

Hopefully Rock and Wells have gotten him right.

The guys on the Finebaum show are idiots. John says best case scenario for Tennessee this year is 8-4. While my personal prediction is 8-4, that is in no way a ceiling for this team. Get tired of some of these so called experts who in reality really don't know a lot about whatever team they're talking about like the guys on the Finebaum show. Apologies for the random post.

They hyped us up all summer last year and it didn't make a difference. Let's ride undar the radar. I've got to where I don't even pay attention to predictions anymore. It's all based off of how the previous year ended and returning players

Edit: I'm not directing this to you for posting this or saying you shouldn't care what he said. Just talking in general about media predictions

Same. I'm cool with flying under the radar every year. Some of the best Tennessee teams in the past flew under the radar as well. Looking forward to this team surprising a lot of folks this year.

We were favored last year and went into the appy state game thinking it would be handed to us.

I expect quite the opposite against g tech this year.

Yep. Sports suck from now until the VOLS start practicing and Fingers gives us the intel.

The CFL season starts next week. I'm not sure how many ex-Vols are in the league.

Other than that, we're surviving off scraps from SEC Media Days, the occasional recruiting drama, and scattered weight room reports until August.

Only Crompton right?

I'm hoping the media plays us down even worse, TBH. I think this team will thrive in an underdog role out of the gates.
