Recruiting Forum Football Talk XXXIV

Fact. Almost impossible to judge what we will be this year due to injuries and guys playing out of position. Nobody has seen 5 star Kongbo or Phillips at DE, nor have they seen Taylor. They haven't seen the receivers we have outside of JJ, all of whom are very talented. They have no clue what we have at QB, even though we have two very highly rated quarterbacks. They haven't seen Ty Chandler, and they are drastically ignoring what JK can do. They haven't discussed the importance of Wiggins coming in, nor have they talked about the massive coaching upgrades that have been made. It is safe to say that no one in the media has any clue how good we can be this year. Neither do we for that matter, but watching people put us below KY is just insane. We have loads of talent and if QD or JG are as good as we think they can be, sky is the limit imo.

To add to that, people keep bringing up the fact that Sutton and JRM are losses, and I get that. But I don't see why anyone would count them among reasons why there would be a drop off this upcoming season since they were essentially non-factors last season.

I don't think recruits spend quite as much time following the Houston Kresses and Vol Twitter fans as the rest of us hardcore fans do.

When they're not playing football, doing school, or handling recruiting, they're probably mostly concerned with getting laid lol

I don't think they do either, but the problem is VolTwitter tends to show its a$$ in public any time they get the chance.

Butch tweets the most absolutely innocuous things, but within 15 minutes there right there making "5* Heart" digs, telling him to quit, etc. Anybody writes about Tennessee, there they are to root around in the slop if its negative, or tell them how much Jones and by extension UT sucks if its remotely positive.

Spot on posts, IMO.

I am not aware of many serious sports fans that tune into ESPN/SEC to learn more. They might tune in to be entertained, most times poorly. Many of us never watch the idiot box's self proclaimed experts. I ignore most projections of W/L except Vegas. They dig a bit deeper and do so on all teams. Not always right, but are more times than not.

I sincerely hope everybody takes this team for granted because the team and coaches themselves are not. Butch seriously upgraded the staff including S&C. Player upgrades due to maturity of existing as well as better replacements at most positions except at one DE, one RB, one WR, and potentially at QB. Would not have been the case if JRM, Cam, K-Mac and Shy had been healthy all season. We would have been talking about the possibility of a NC last year and the media would have been loving up on the Vols and Butch this season. Of course that would have meant we had a real S&C program last season.

If they can get pushes at the three offensive positions, which looks highly possible IMO - this season will be robust. Need one of the stable of RB's to be a suitable back-up to Kelly. I see zero drop off at WR and QB. TE usage will improve. O-line will be stout. QB will be different, not worse IMO.

Barnett is not replaceable. Will need a tandem at DE to improve the overall performance, which should happen if we have strong push from DT's. Here is where Hoke will make the difference along with the return of healthy DT's. Barnett got it done regardless of the performance of the rest of the D-line. Cannot even imagine the number of sacks he would have ended up with had there been a strong D-line at other positions to eliminate some double teams. Legendary - file him away in your memory banks forever like Eric Berry and PM.

Not just from double teams but also the DTs getting a push up the middle so the QB couldn't step up in the pocket would've helped Barnett. And not getting held every play. Truly one of the top guys to ever play at UT.

Yeah. Barnett is a loss. Vereen hurts a little. I look at it as though we are adding Tuttle, Kirkland, Phillips, McKenzie, Wiggins plus everyone else on team and new recruits.

All the so called football experts on the SEC Network lack a real understanding of football. They are entertainers. Even former players no longer study the game. ESPN does not want analysis of players and games. They want ratings and hits on their website and Twitter. They want to stir the pot. It is why program ratings are falling with exception of the actual games.

I stopped paying attention to just about every "expert" on ESPN several years ago. It might sound arrogant but I'm pretty sure I know more about what's going on with Tennessee football and what to expect than literally any of the so called experts on ESPN/SEC Network. John on the Finebaum show is just an idiot. He doesn't seem to respect the Tennessee program whatsoever. It's like he sees Tennessee on the same level as a Mississippi State or a Kentucky.

It's our game, the American game. It will repair our losses and be a blessing to us.

As much as I've hated the Lebron is great vs. the haters talk in here there are two quintessentially American sports and neither one is baseball. They are 1. Basketball and 2. Lacrosse. These were created in the Americas and aren't derivative sports that were created in other countries like say Cricket/Baseball or Rugby/Football.

Both Lacrosse and Basketball are American made and derived from Native American games. Lacrosse especially but even shooty hoops has Native American ancestry so to speak. Baseball may be called our national pastime but it's origins aren't American the same way those two are.

You can shut the hell up too.

In fairness to that poster, I think baseball games are fun to play in, fun to see live, but a terrible thing to try and watch on television. Golf is similar, imo, although I'm not sure I can say it's fun to watch live since I haven't watched a tourney in person but I assume it might be.

Baseball, imo, just isn't made for tv.
