I asked this last night after Dobbs 2nd INT but no one answered and I really would like to know the answer. It's a hard concept for me to understand.
they love it
if i was Butch i wouldnt let those guys near the facility to see anything at this point.
QBs typically go off progression reads based on coverage. They have their keys they look for presnap to determine whether the defense is playing man or zone. If it's man, you go from read 1 to read 2 then read 3. If it's zone you look for something else.
Zone blitzes look like man presnap but then switch to zone after the snap with the DE dropping into the middle of the defense to try and stop the crossing patterns typically used to beat man to man defense. When a QB thinks it's man presnap he's not gonna be looking for the guy dropping into zone. That's what happened on that play. Dobbs thought it was man defense because presnap the DB followed the WR in motion like it was man. But then the Giants went into zone. Dobbs didn't pick up on that and he threw a crossing pattern designed to beat man defense right to the DE that dropped into zone.
This is the type of exotic defense that even tricks long time NFL vets into INTs. Its a good learning experience for Dobbs. Its the type of stuff he'll be seeing in the regular season compared to the vanilla coverages most other rookies see in the preseason.
I'm no expert but my thoughts are yes, the QB should know but I think it is more of an experience/ game planning type thing. A QB isn't looking at a DE at the time of the snap on a pass, but from watching film and gaining more experience you can tell that it's coming by seeing certain movements on the backend of the defense if that makes sense.
First game of his career against that defense then yeah he probably had no idea it was coming

CBJ said yesterday that the D is ahead of the O and that's how it should be right now. He also said we have no continuity on O and need to get a lot better very quickly. So the media guys are probably taking his less positive comments and adding a more negative spin.
They are dying for Butch to get fired. Then they'll be head cheerleaders for the next guy until he loses to Florida, at which point they will viciously turn on him and continue to hate him until the cycle repeats.
