From gators board:

"New Hearing more here in Gainesville. No idea how accurate this info is, but it sounds plausible.

Word now is that the players were using a financial aid or school issued card and then reporting it stolen so that it would get replaced. Essentially, they could double the money.

Supposedly one player did it and told others and then they started doing it as well. A single incident didn't throw up any red flags, but when the number of people claiming lost or stolen cards starting growing the admin started looking into it. Apparently one player admitted to it and gave the name of the guy that came up with the scam.

Supposedly one player (not a starter) has already been dismissed from the team. I am guessing that would be the ring leader. The other players are going to have to make restitution to remain eligible. Punishment will be handled in house. No charges filed with authorities.

It's also being said that one player was forced to leave his shared apartment by another players parents who have the lease to the apartment.

Looks like this whole thing has huge potential to be divisive in the locker room and be a huge distraction.

BTW, the starters involved are supposedly Callaway and OL Taylor. Once again, this is just what I heard.

Jordan Smith will be gone. Not sure about Callaway because of the previous issues. Jawaan Taylor should be fine. Boosters will pay restitutions and this will be swept under the rug. Not as bad as appeared."

UGA had 4 players do something similar back 3 or 4 years ago. They were actually charged with theft and arrested. I think a few of them were dismissed.

If rumors are true and 3 or 4 players get dismissed, Florida in week 3 switches to an absolute must win for Butch. I don't think too many fans (myself probably included) will accept losing to a depleted, scandal ridden UF squad in year 5. We wasted too many opportunities to take advantage of them when we didn't have talent to let this opportunity pass (again, assuming this stuff is true which it may not be).

Meanwhile Mo Couch needed $500 for something for his baby and ruled ineligible

I think it was diapers and formula.

It appears that Mark Richt has lost control of the Florida Gators. The AA needs to get involved here IMO. There is a obvious lack of institutional control down there.

From a gator fan on sec rant:

Callaway and Taylor would be insane loses to our team. Not having those two will amount in at least 1 more loss than we would have with them on it. Minimal

$150k is SERIOUS. They ain't coming back if true

Yessir.
I believe that is felony level with mandatory jail time.
That is also something that is above a booster being able to intervene with their pocketbook to convince someone to drop charges.

Just got serious for gatornation...
Couldn't happen to a more deserving group

:)

But when a Tennessee player accepted money for his sick daughter's medical bills, he is not allowed to return at all by SEC/NCAA...
Time for something similar to befall the gators...

SEC network hates Tennessee - on air right now:

UT vs South Carolina

Next is UT vs A&M

Closing with UT vs. Vandy

Been around long enough to know that the gators are gonna minimalize the impact this will have on their team even if we are lucky enough for it to be true.
