Considering the ball was still traveling upwards when it was tipped, it is entirely possible that it might have good without the interference.
Cross bar is 10 feet high. If the ball had risen 4 feet in 7 yards, it could reach over 20ft in 36 yards, twice what is required. Note that I'm not say it would have...I'm not an actual FGFS (Field Goal Forensics Specialist)...but with sufficient velocity it could have.
But of course Paul F. Bain stopped it...with a cold stare....so we'll never know.
