I'm ready to see a lot more of Wiggins/Osborne/Freshman CBs also, done waiting on Martin to figure it out and short leash for EM as well. Yea he made that one play, but it looked to me like the WR had dropped it already.

As negative as I have been I am willing to give martin one more shot.

Vols fans should be the proudest fans in the SEC now-- Marcus Spears.

I'll agree with him. Apparently, in the fourth quarter we had a three percent chance of winning that game.

Yeah...well UCLA had <0.1% chance of winning at one point in their game! FAHRBUTCHOMGIHATETRASHCANS!!!!

Sloppy play was okay because we won, then TAMU happened.

Giving up tons of yards was okay because we won, then Vandy happened.

Yeah, Bruin is right on this one. Eventually, either by injury or otherwise, you don't have the pure talent (or luck) to make up for the mistakes. It's a troubling development because Butch's teams were incredibly disciplined in his first 3 years.

People saying Stars don't matter need to look at our best players yesterday. Outside of Kelly and Bituli the others were highly rated and played the part. Callaway, Trey Smith, Warrior and Darrell Taylor were all 4 star or better. All this sleeper talk is over with. Recruit the difference makers and be done with it. LB, DT and DB should be the main position we are loading up at. Help is needed and in a hurry.

Bituli was a 4 star

Whats the reward? Had he ever made a positive play? All I want to see is consistent play period. Doesn't have to be spectacular even, just eliminate the huge mistakes and it would be a win IMO. Break up an occasional pass, make tackles to limit YAC and just don't get beat deep or commit a bunch of PIs, so frustrating.

Something is wrong with Shoop's defense. No doubt about that. Injuries last year were a big part of it but there's something else that is off.

I'm starting to think that he plays the wrong players and/or the guys on defense don't know what they are doing all the time.

I am pretty confident that we had a terrible defensive gameplan Saturday. I guess my hope is that even though we saw the team get shredded last year towards the end of the season, Monday night had more to do with a terrible game plan against a unique offense ran by an underrated team and what we saw isn't a continuation from last year.

The Nebraska game actually gives me hope because in the middle of this 5 game skid by our defense was the Nebraska game where we held a ranked opponent in check. So in theory, the South Carolina, Vandy, Missouri and Kentucky games were due mostly to injury and the Georgia tech game was due to a terrible game plan. Right now, this is what I want to believe but I'm gonna need to see what happens the next 2 weeks.

What was undisciplined about Monday?

He's got all the tools. if he has grown up I want to see him get one more shot

We still haven't fixed the fundamentals on D. Missed assignments, guys out of position, sloppy tackling. GT had players slipping out of tackles and dodging UT players diving at them all game. It got worse as mental fatigue set in. Their QB is a good player, but we let him had a great game. Other teams' QBs have record nights against us because they see our weaknesses and exploit them.

Still time to get it fixed before UF.

Disagree on Jones.

Did you watch him in the run game?

I'm not sure there's really anything to disagree with. Go watch the offensive snaps again. He was ok to good in pass protection. He was probably our worst run blocker Monday.

He's got a rep as a nasty guy, but he didn't put that on tape in week 1.

I would love to know the best tool for evaluating OL. Hubbs said Smith and Roberson were the best and PFF said it was Kendrick. My huntch is PFF is the best thing to go by. I would love to see their grades every week for all our players.

What does it cost?

I watched the first half, I saw one bad rep on a draw play.

There were a couple instances of his man getting out of a block late.

I just watched it once and only first half.

What does UT list him at? He looked a little undersized out there for a G to me.

Edit: they list him at 312, I must be going blind

During times like this when there is so much heartache over a close win, It makes me feel better to think back on the '98 championship season! The Vols came out of the gate strong, beating the snot out of, a solid, Syracuse team. Arkansas was no competition and as usually the Vols whopped up on the Gators. Obviously that was all because we had a seasoned, 4 year starter at QB, whom we all knew would lead the Vols to a championship. Man those were the good ole days. Maybe someday the Vols will get back there. This isn't going to be their year because it's already decided, but I think I will watch the games anyway. You know, just in case! ;) Have a great day VN, Love you all!

So question.....if FL's game gets cancelled this weekend what are the chances all their suspensions get bumped to our game?

Shoop stepped into the batter's box at the beginning of last season with a Worth baseball bat from Walmart and managed to have success. Then players started dropping like flies. Important players. Especially the defensive front. By the end of the season he was trying to hit 100mph fastballs with a broomstick. Not going to judge him for not being able to hit Clayton Kershaw with a broomstick.
First game this season he is minus DKJr. and Tuttle against a crazy type of offense that we won't see again all season. He was trying to hit one of those crazy wiffle balls that dances. We get Tuttle back and saw lots of speed and potential from Warrior, Taylor, Batuli. So I think he will be stepping into the batter's box with at least a mid-level Marucci bat the rest of the season. I will judge him based on how well he performs under those normal circumstances.
