I don't follow this hurricane stuff closely, but the projections I've seen have this thing potentially making landfall in South Florida on Sunday, and predictions for rain/wind affecting Gainesville are on Monday. Why does everyone think it's so dangerous for Florida to play at noon on Saturday?

Don't get me wrong...I hope they cave to the pressure and cancel this week's game, but I just don't see logically why they would.

May I ask, why should he be High on them? Are you high on them, if so, why?

Is it possible to be neutral in our society today? does everything have to be high or low?

I'd like to say i'm somewhere in the middle with this staff. not high or low.

If you were a school admin., would you want half of your fan base potentially traveling thru hurricanes to honor their tickets?
Do you want roads filled with traffic from the game that could be used to evacuees and rescue vehicles etc?

The storm has about a 300 mile radius from front to back. It's massive and one of the biggest, strongest to EVER come out of the Atlantic. You should be evacuated come Saturday, not at a football game. If it causes a lot of damage it could also affect Tennessee vs Florida... Depends how bad Gainesville gets it.

step away... he didn't agree with my opinion by saying "another toxic Vol fan' and earlier said I was "spewing verbal diarrhea"... And who's the immature one?
You are exactly right, everyone has the right to disagree and instead of disagreeing, he throws out insults instead of simply disagreeing... you need to get your facts straight before you step into something...

Yea, I got it and read it. Maybe shouldn't have used the word "toxic." But, he was calling you out for being ridiculous. The fan mindset these days has gotten out of control. Nonetheless, enjoy your day.

Callaway not getting targeted until Jennings was hurt is hilarious. Identifying playmakers is lacking for sure. It's like once a guy is s starter they turn blind to anything else. Just like Worley over Dobbs a few years back. Jumper over Kirkland early on the other year. And it continues on..... play the best players and forget this seniority nonsense. That age of football is over with. Play the best and win or be replaced. Callaway probably could've helped last year while they were busy not using an Army All-American DB in Byrd. Smh

Exactly. It's much more than just the storm time table. Police, fire and all the normal amount of workers needed to help with a home game will be needed for much more important tasks or dealing with their own families and issues. It's a tough ask to have them put that on hold for a game of football one day before the biggest hurricane in history.

He's one. There's another guy on another board who has been saying similar things. I've been trying to read between the lines with some others. The VQ staff, when I've heard Hubbs and Lewis on the radio, tried to go out of their way to temper expectations. Hubbs gets asked a lot a variation of the question: "how many wins does Butch need to keep his job?" and he always said something like, "8-4 is safe, but I could see a scenario in which 6-6 or 7-5 doesn't mean termination if the recruiting class is still good and either Dormady or Gitmo perform well." Lewis, when asked the question, said basically the same but that a loss to Vanderbilt coupled with anything less than 8 wins would mean trouble.

And also during Monday night's game, a lot of the people covering the team seemed like they had been holding some negative reports back. I think one of the Rocky Top Talk guys said defensive backs had been a serious concern behind the scenes and Callahan from 247 made a comment about how he was surprised the drops from the WR's/inaccuracy from the QB's wasn't a more well documented issue in camp because the coaches were worried about it.

On the flipside, famously bipolar Mike Griffith on the SEC Country podcast today said he wasn't surprised this team found a way to win and he said there was a quiet confidence building all through camp. Seemed to imply the coaches thought this team was better than it was being given credit for.

Tomorrow Mike will lose his prescription meds and begin painting Indiana State as the '85 Bears so take it for what it's worth.

Still listening to the podcast though I continue to wonder why I do...

Yeah, that makes sense. I'm definitely naive about that sort of thing...only thinking of the ramifications from north of Gainesville.

It's not that. I feel like LWS is predicting 5-7 without actually saying it.

I can hear others predict 7-5 or 8-4 and they all usually have the same reasons. Unproven guys, bad defense last year, new QB.

Larry just sounds different. It's weird. Like I said earlier it concerns me because Larry has seen a lot of football and he's been right more than wrong.

Edit: also says this staff can't develop players which I say is bunk.

Between Volnation and VQ, I've tried to read the vast majority of LWS's posts over the last fifteen years or so. Here are some of my observations...

In regards to facts, he is money.

In regards to opinion, he has always been a glass half empty kind of guy. But during the period I've been paying attention, we've also seen the end of the Fulmer Era, the Kiffin Debacle, the Dooley Years, and the start of Jones's tenure, so in that regard you could say he has also been money.

Ever since Blackburn did not get hired as AD, LWS has held it up as an example of how Volunteer Football will never again have nice things because of the UT admin.

Going into last year, that's the most optimistic I have ever seen him be in fifteen years. After the disappointing losses to S. Carolina and Vandy down the stretch, I'm sure he will never let it happen again..

yep, you too... you need to know my "mindset" is not out of control and the point that was missed was someone was pointing to this year's draft as proof of Butch developing players. I said that with Barnett, Kamara, Sutton, JRM, etc, these were already players playing at a high level coming in and they continued to do so. When I think about developing players, I think of kids who come in as raw freshman and have a high ceiling and they progress through their time at UT... the players referenced didn't fit that mold.
We have a lot of players that have remained stagnant and have not developed/improved like they should have by now. Hopefully this new staff will be able to get them over the hump... our DB/CB and LB development has been lagging...

It's simple. You give criticism and not praise. It's cool. I got it, and I don't agree with that philosophy.

I think in the case of Byrd, we need to see touches or some action in the next couple of games or there's no reason not to cut our losses and try him at DB... He is so talented, we need to get the most out of his ability and 2-3 passes a game isn't utilizing that talent.

I'm in Naples right now, and everyone is flipping the eff out! Our flight home for Friday has already been cancelled, and no others are avail.
It's not suppose to be here til Sunday morning.

Lol. Mike is bipolar as hell, but I like him. He really wants UT to do well.

I'm eating crow on Calloway. That kid is a dominant force at WR. He straight clubbed a db and knocked him back 2 yards. He played his ass off for us and won us the game with Kelly. You can't take him off the field, he's too good. Chandler needs 10 carries from now on as well.

Isn't most of the state being evacuated? Or is that just south Florida?
