What is the outlook for growth in Knoxville over the next decade? I am planning on starting my financial planning practice very soon and am trying to decide the best place to be. I know middle Tennessee is exploding but what is the outlook in Knoxville? TIA for any information. :hi:

Swiss rolls.

Little Debbie is smokin hot!

Many folks in Eastern KY feel that way about the "Golden Triangle" region that includes Louisville, Lexington, and Frankfort because the system has been set up to funnel the vast majority of the state's money and resources into that area, and it's been that way for generations. You wouldn't believe the amount of coal money (both public and private) that goes into that area instead of the very places from which it was mined.

I've also always gotten the impression that much of Louisville considers itself a northern metropolis far apart from the southeast region to which the rest of the state belongs.

Oh believe me I know all about the coal severance money being stolen by the triangle. I live in Harlan. Harlan county itself has produced in excess of 50 Billion dollars worth of coal in today's dollars in the last 100 years(according to some local government guys who really are trying to help now). The county has nothing to show for it..NOTHING. It is a wasteland now. Most of the coalfields region is. The real unemployed rate of the population is closer to 80% than to the 20ish% that government claims. Kentucky is the most corrupt state I have ever lived in.

Man, I remember when the recruiting forum was great. We would come here to escape the crazies of the football forum.

There are a handful of posters who have made it unbearable in here. Sad

I was a business banker based in Knoxville working for a myriad of employers due to mergers, acquisitions, etc. over 3 decades. The outlook for Knoxville's overall economy is and has always been stable to growth due to the balance of private and public sectors. Traditional manufacturing, especially automotive related, has been booming an hour south into Chattanooga. Knox County has a shortage of industrial park land for larger industry relocations that they are attempting to address in east Knox County. Family incomes are rising at a stable rate. Tourism continues to be exploding in Sevier and Blount Counties, as has population growth. There are probably some good opportunities for CFP's in those two counties as the local banks/investment houses are not focused on it and there are a limited number of legal/accounting professionals. The higher income individuals tend to use Knoxville based firms.

The number of financial planning firms is probably several dozen. There is a large supply of attorneys and CPA's, so referral networking would be available. Networking is the key as you know. The area has been targeted by major developers as a place to do projects. All types are underway and planned. So I see it continuing to be a good growth market with increasing population and a good quality of life. Hope this helps.

Having only been an RF guy for the past 3-4 years, I have avoided the FF for fear of contamination. Last week was my first time in the FF, thank you again Fingers for the updates! Over there the posters are discussing the players, the coaches, depth charts, and other generally worthwhile topics; have a couple of lighthearted threads going like the Paul Bain thread; and are needling rival posters while defending our beloved Volunteers. Over here in the RF posters are having pissing duels; quality threads are being hijacked for the sake of quoting and Internet bullying of nitwits; posters display a tendency toward trashing our team for the sake of winning arguments and/ or being "realistic;" and many posters use this forum to spew their own inner dilemmas and personal struggles with doom and gloom.

I like following recruiting and getting updates about the recruits we are in on, so I'll be here still. But, for the record the RF is not better than the FF as posters like Kristy* and others have recently attempted to point out.

To your point VFnGL, there are more than a handful of RF posters making this forum unbearable. This offseason I have readily taken advantage of the ignore list - life is too short for the vitriol, negativity, and truculent energy of many of the posters in the RF. It is common to scroll through a page very quickly do to ignores or due to the predictability of other poster whom aren't being ignored but whom seldom contribute anything of value.

I've now started splitting my time this past week between the two forums, and have found myself eagerly switching to the FF to get away from the contentious and argumentative vibes of the RF. Sorry folks, but if asked today, I'd say the FF is the better of the two because I like cheering for my team, not being subjected to the dreg personalities of so many in here.

There are more opportunities for actual football-related discussion in the FF. Over here, we're limited to this thread. And since recruiting itself isn't going so great, individual recruit threads aren't exactly great places to post either.

The RF is definitely better than the FF once the season gets rolling, IMO. And of course this place is way more fun when recruiting is going well.
