Recruiting Forum Off-Topic Thread II

There are more opportunities for actual football-related discussion in the FF. Over here, we're limited to this thread. And since recruiting itself isn't going so great, individual recruit threads aren't exactly great places to post either.

The RF is definitely better than the FF once the season gets rolling, IMO. And of course this place is way more fun when recruiting is going well.

Once the season gets started, I hope to see the turn around in the RF like you suggest. I really enjoyed the RF in years past. Not so much these past four months.

GBO. We are about to embark on a historical season.

I try my best to be fair to both forums. You are correct, once the season gets started, a lot of people that just enjoy trying to tick others off, suddenly show up in the FF again.

In the end, it's a numbers game. It comes down to quantity.
There is only 3 or 4 in the RF but they post endlessly.

But ST., you are just getting a glimpse at a certain period in time.
As the season starts, you will see a definite increase in those who just like to annoy. Same as certain ones do here in the RF lately.

Just a quick weigh-in from someone who's been on this site for 9 years ...

RF v FF - it's a pendulum thing, swinging one way or another.

In recent years, the football team was not so great and the FF was full of bitter, angry people. Meanwhile, hopeful, optimistic people populated the RF because we could see a bright future being assembled.

Now, the football team is poised for a great season and the hopeful, optimistic people feel safe to wander over there and talk excitedly about the upcoming season. Meanwhile, recruiting doesn't look as good (comparatively speaking) and those who prefer bitterness and complaining have started drifting over here.

Man, I remember when the recruiting forum was great. We would come here to escape the crazies of the football forum.

There are a handful of posters who have made it unbearable in here. Sad

Gets pretty tiresome seeing that group continuously try to put down posters like D4H for an "opinion". They make snarky comments about the poster not the "opinion" and high five each other with likes. Meanwhile we have to wade through pages of this kind of stuff to actually get any information. D4H is a VOL fan with enthusiasm but I care so much more about his, often out there, opinion about football than someones opinion on him.

D4H lost the respect of this community once he accused people of racism just because they thought the real Dobbs needed to improve his passing. He's not the cat that you should have used as an example.

There's a little bit of truth to this but you are definitely omitting a rather large part.

D4H loves attention.
If people stop talking about him,
He'll call people racist or stupid etc..
He doesn't bother me that much but..
If you think the attention he receives is unwanted or unwarranted, then you're missing the underlying cause. Which is because he prefers it that way.

If you are unhappy with the attention he receives, maybe you should ask him to stop begging for it.

D4H is a schtick creation. If you take him at face value, he only roots for winning teams and he's only followed us since 98. So if you want to gauge that as a "Vol fan with enthusiasm" have at it. The rest of his silly spiel involves DECLARATIONS (not opinions) of how players will perform in college and the pros. He's not posted for long so his first beta test was Marquez North and he guaranteed he'd be a 4th round pick or higher. First in a litany of future failure, but his fallback was that NFL GMs are clueless. Not sure what that represents for his future prognostications since those "clueless clowns" are still in charge. Last thing I'll address is his personal garbage against our players. Calling TKJr and Cortez McDowell "fat"...O'Brien "useless"...etc. That goes beyond the scope of JMO. So give him a pass and portray him as some kind of tragic hero if you will...he knows what he's doing and loves it.

What detracts are the posters who feel like they need to defend their opinion against every contrary notion. They high-jack threads to this end. It makes their posting about them. There is not merely one suspect and some have mended their ways over the years.

As for me, I'm looking for our D-Line to close out a few close games this year.

Defense will take over quite a few. IMO

People just need to stop giving it to him especially the ones that are keen to it. The people making those comments about him are also attention seekers. Am I wrong?

I just used him as an example because he appears to be the most popular (in a negative way) to elicit such responses.

Not sure I look at it the same way.

When he's receiving attention, his posts tone down and become a little more normal and occasionally even good.
When everyone stops, as you suggested,
That's when I have to scroll through him bashing players and such.

So it's either those posters going after him or him going after our players/coaches and those posters.
Not really a winning strategy either way.

He was probably 10 years old in 98 and like I said "often out there". Would just rather he and a few other not be a topic of discussion in the FF or RF like it is now.

Put him on ignore and don't quote. As long as you discuss him, it ain't stopping.

I was a business banker based in Knoxville working for a myriad of employers due to mergers, acquisitions, etc. over 3 decades. The outlook for Knoxville's overall economy is and has always been stable to growth due to the balance of private and public sectors. Traditional manufacturing, especially automotive related, has been booming an hour south into Chattanooga. Knox County has a shortage of industrial park land for larger industry relocations that they are attempting to address in east Knox County. Family incomes are rising at a stable rate. Tourism continues to be exploding in Sevier and Blount Counties, as has population growth. There are probably some good opportunities for CFP's in those two counties as the local banks/investment houses are not focused on it and there are a limited number of legal/accounting professionals. The higher income individuals tend to use Knoxville based firms.

The number of financial planning firms is probably several dozen. There is a large supply of attorneys and CPA's, so referral networking would be available. Networking is the key as you know. The area has been targeted by major developers as a place to do projects. All types are underway and planned. So I see it continuing to be a good growth market with increasing population and a good quality of life. Hope this helps.

:hi:

That is extremely helpful. Thank you very much!

Was that included in you bringing him up in your post? :hmm:

Glad this got moved to the Off topic. To get my point across I had to give an example. I could have used a few others as examples but the discussion would have been the same.

That's because an unhealthy number of his statements are asinine. He is not worthy of a martyr status I can assure you.

You wouldnt have the same conversation if you named another polarizing figure such as Crunch/Leb or SGM. Unfortunately your example was not a legitimate one. IMO.

There's no difference in my words "often out there" to your words "asinine".

If I would have said Crunchy the posters might be different but there would be equally as much disdain to perpetuate the discussion about the said person and not the forum topic at hand.

See forum guidelines posted by Freak himself.
3. Personal Attacks add nothing to the board. Healthy debate is expected and encouraged, but take the childish insults elsewhere. My philosophy has always been to attack the post and not the poster. Posts such as "your an idiot" don't add to the discussion. With varying opinions and viewpoints, most everyone will view some posts as idiotic. We have two great features to make your experience here more enjoyable:'Ignore thread' and 'Ignore user'. USE THEM.

Did anyone see the Holland women's bicyclist wreck during the road race? She might be dead.

Apparently there are some unconfirmed reports that Dutch TV is saying she is okay. I will be very surprised if she is 100% fine. That was a bad flip and how she landed.....bad.
