Any of the VN MDs. Since I recently moved, I have not established myself with a new doctor here in Murfreesboro. However, I have been on 15 mg daily dose of Meloxicam for about a year now. My wife was just prescribed diclofenac sodium tablets to help reduce inflammation in her feet. (Bunions aggravated recently by an injury) She is worried about taking it due to the list side effects and now she is worried about my liver being on Meloxicam so much. The fact that I enjoy my rum doesn't ease her worry either. Should I go see a doc about cycling off Meloxicam? Is there something that doesn't affect the liver so much that would be a reasonable substitute? Or should I consider a different treatment for my chondromalacia?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Move to Colorado and partake bruh!

Sorry, couldn't resist :)

Routine labwork is indicated, but frequency of testing depends on your overall health and history of any issues...
Yearly physical is recommended....

Natural supplements that can help as much as the Meloxicam if you find the one works for you.
I take Omega 3 oil @ 3 capsules per day with as good a response as to medications like Meloxicam.

Others: flax seed oil, glucosamine/chondroitin, etc.
I have patients with new natural solutions that may have been used by this or that cultures with success for centuries.

As for your wife, diclofenac was found to be best for arthritic pain in a huge study in Europe (50k patients).
It does have a higher side effect profile than Meloxicam. So take minimum amount that works for each of you...

Hope that helps.

It does. I take turmeric and glucosamine/chondroitin daily as well. I have to rin for the Army still but even with all the meds my knees hurt all day after I run. I sat at my desk with ice on my knees today. Is there a surgical treatment for chondromalacia? I don't really want to have surgery but it is getting to a point where I have to try something else.

They won't give me one. I've asked.

I think I'm going to find a doc here in Murfreesboro and get them to put something on paper that says I can't run anymore. I'm done. I want to be able to walk when I'm 45.

They can try to smooth it out arthroscopically, but double edged sword. Can improve situation or can cause progression of the chondromalacia.

Have you seen a physical therapist? If your patella are not tracking correctly, can cause lots of pain. May be an imbalance between Vastus lateralis and Vastus medialis. Short arc quaf strengthening can help.
If it is due to medial or lateral retinaculum tightness, then patellar mobilization stretches will help.
Have you had a steroid shot in your knee? It helped mine greatly....

I have only seen a general practitioner. Should I find an orthopedic doctor or a physical therapist?

EDIT: I'm sorry to bother you with this. Thank you so much for the advice

Definitely a good sports med doc.
In Tennessee, do you need a Rx for therapy? If not, may want to start with a therapist first.
No problem my friend!
:hi:

A sports med doc can be:
Orthopedic Surgeon
Physical medicine and rehab (my specialty)
Even Family practice if they did a fellowship.

My insurance doesn't require referrals as long as the doc is in network. I will look up sports med docs in my network tomorrow. Thanks again.

You too man. I hope it works out with your knees.

I don't run anymore, it hurts my leg too much. At least on hard surfaces. I can run on grass fine.

Nowadays if you see me running you better run with me cuz something bigger and meaner than me is chasing me! 😀

Go walk in to Caretan Clinic on Campbell, they'll take care of you. Bring your documentation and tell them that you are having issues getting your profile request up to your command surgeon.
