Nah. I think we should just build more prisons. That's the real problem, not enough prisons.

I've offered a possible solution that doesn't completely legalize illicit drugs, nor make them readily available to the general public, while simultaneously offering potential benefits of curbing drug addiction on the outset by mandating drug rehabilitation for simple possession.

And believe me, it won't work on everybody, maybe not even a large percentage, but what it would do is keep dipsh**s out of jail for possessing less than a felony amount of illegal narcotics, including legend and prescription drugs (which is a BIGGER problem anyway) that aren't prescribed to that individual.

And I've stated, several times, I'm in favor of legalizing MJ. Give me 50 potheads for every 1 meth-head or Heroin user. Meth explodes and needles transfer disease.

If you can offer offer something other than, JUST LEGALIZE IT ALL, I'm all ears.

I said yesterday just legalize MJ. Leave hard drugs illegal, that's fine. But the truth is the federal government isn't going to make it fully legal anytime soon. Too much money behind the scenes against it.

It always comes down to money. Everything always comes down to money. When the "Money" wants something changed, it will be. The "Money" doesn't care about the general public, race relations, drug use, etc. They just care about keeping their power and their bank accounts full.

Tobacco is legal and kills almost half a million people a year. You know how many people have died from weed? Zero. Not one person ever. Oh and more people die from legal prescription drugs than cocaine, heroin and other illegal drugs combined.

What a joke of a system we have.

Ron, my friend, that is not true.

It's amazing to me that you have to type this out.

The same concept can be applied to Ron's argument that it would decrease crime. It might have a small effect on the number of people arrested for possession, but it doesn't matter if drugs are legal or illegal. They mess with your brain and make normal folks do abnormal things to get their fix. If you can buy heroin over the counter but don't have the money you are gonna rob someone or kill someone or do some other illegal act to get it because you don't care. Prescription pain killers are legal and people still rob pharmacies and break into homes to steal pills. The fact that those substances are consider legal makes zero difference to the person that is addicted to them.

Addiction can affect anyone but it is more often than not a socioeconomical issue. Poor and low income people are affected more and end up in prison more for drug related crimes because the drugs are more prevalent in their neighborhoods. I don't know the answer but legalizing drugs will not solve our problems.

Also, drugs are not a new problem in the world. Opiates have been around for a long long time. So has weed. We have new ones like meth and all the new synthetic poison that people have created but the problem is the same. Drugs affect your brain and it is very difficult to fix the problem after it takes hold. Even if you completely stopped the flow of illegal drugs in this country, fools would be huffing paint or drinking hand sanitizer or some other stupid ish because they need a fix one way or the other.

It's not? How many have overdosed on weed? Pretty sure it's zero.

No one dies from nicotine OD. The reason people dies from cigarettes is the same reason why people die from weed. CANCER. Don't fool yourself into thinking MJ doesn't cause cancer. Tobacco was popular for the same reason weed is getting legalized. People thought it had healing benefits. With more legitimate research the same thing will be found for MJ.

Obviously I meant in relation to hard drugs where you can overdose. But fine...

7. Myth: Marijuana use causes cancer

Fact: It's true that marijuana smoke, like tobacco smoke, contains carcinogens. But even hardcore pot smokers typically consume much less pot than tobacco smokers do cigarettes, probably not enough to cause cancer. A 2006 UCLA study concluded that even heavy marijuana use does not lead to lung cancer. "We hypothesized that there would be a positive association between marijuana use and lung cancer, and that the association would be more positive with heavier use," said the study's lead author. "What we found instead was no association at all, and even a suggestion of some protective effect." This and other studies suggest that pot can actually inhibit the growth of cancerous tumors. Finally, what risks there are involve smoking, and there are other ways to consume marijuana.

/discussion.

I'd wager that MJ will be legal throughout the country within a decade. Change comes slowly.

I find it funny in that report that it says marijuana contains the same things carcinogens cigarettes do but instead of causing cancer it prevents it.

I bet if you did nothing but ate THC edibles your chance of cancer would not increase. Its the carcinogens from smoking you are referring to.

One thing I've read about is with these edibles, you can OD. Evidently, it's possible to really get too much.
