I thought they had the religion for that?

HEY OOOH!

Many people take what they are told in terms of religion without thinking about it too. That is why groups like Westboro Baptist are able to exist. Truly digging in to the Bible and reading it for yourself reveals that most of the dogma perpetrated by the organized denominations is simply interpretations of what some people think a particular passage or series of passages mean. I doubt there is any one denomination that I agree with 100% on everything. I try to read the bible daily and I have a discussion group that I meet with weekly. This helps me to understand God's will for myself, and not just take "Pastor" Koresh's word for it.

this just in.........people are dumb. and what's better than religion and politics to steer the masses one way or the other.....i'll tell you...using social media to use politics and religion to steer the masses one way or the other.

Media goes out of their way to limit the bad exposure that Islam gets when a radical Islamist terror attack occurs. The headline will read, "Terrorist Attack on Hotel". Let those loons at Westboro "Baptist Church" protest a funeral and the headline will read "Baptists Protests Homosexual Funeral"
That's a basic ingroup/outgroup thing that is seen all over though. Muslims are a pretty small minority in the US and many people still know few or any of them. So it's human instinct to see a handful of instances of extremism from Muslims and think "that's just how Muslims are" instead of "that's how those specific Muslims are." So I get the need to step in and remind people that not all Muslims are that way.

You see a similar dynamic when you travel around the world as an American. If one American ignores some local custom or gets drunk and acts like an a**hole abroad, it's not uncommon to see people come to think "Americans are obnoxious jackasses" instead of "That particular American is an obnoxious jackass."

Basically, Muslims get protected because they're more likely to need that protection than white Christians, who are one of our largest and most influential demographics anyway. And I say that as somebody who has absolutely no problem with a "Muslim ban" (because the last thing we need in this country are more fundamentalists).

Lol you can print something until you're blue in the face, doesn't make it true.

I agree that there is solid evidence for the life and death of Jesus, but rose from the dead?

That's where your leap of faith comes in. You'll defend that faith until your dying day and that's fine.

But don't tell me I've made an uneducated decision when it's consistent with the vast majority of scholars in my field.

Historians don't accept the historicity of the Bible. It's really that simple. You are clearly an intelligent guy, strong in your faith. I'd be curious to know the foundation of it- instilled by parents, fear of death... probably one of the usual reasons. You're so lucky to have been born into the correct religion. Those Muslims, Hindus, etc.... man what a crappy break.

You can find more Christian literature trying to explain away things like the parallels between Sargon of Akkad and Biblical Moses, than actual academia on the web. Faith means so much to people, hell they've invested so much time and effort into it. I prefer to live and let live tbh, but when Christians legislate their morality on to everyone else I can't do it.

Well sir, as you have now affirmed twice in this thread---you believe in the existence of Jesus of Nazareth.
Would you please share the evidence you examined that convinced you of this position?

I did not mean to be condescending to you in any way--or anyone else on here with my last statements.

However, I do stand by the legitimacy of the comparisons I made between the validity of the historical evidence in the ancient texts concerning Julius Caesar's death
with the historical evidence concerning the way Jesus of Nazareth died--and was resurrected three days later.

The time gap between Caesar's death and the written records in existence about that event is approximately 1000 years.
We have written fragments of the NT record that go back approximately 30 years after the historical events they describe.
We also have copies of the complete NT record that go back to the 4th Century--just 350 years after the actual events happened that are described therein.
That's a historical time gap BEAT DOWN concerning the competition between the reliability of those ancient texts---The Bible wins going away!
And it's even a greater victory for the Old Testament concerning time gap and consistency between copies of those ancient texts.

Therefore--I pointed out the inconsistency existing among historians/experts/anyone who will believe in Caesar, Antony, and Cleopatra but refuse to accept the validity of the Bible.

Simply stated--since the Bible is the most valid piece of ancient literature--it's not a "blind leap" of faith into historical nonsense to believe what the Bible says is true.

Concerning the validity of resurrection---I say go to nature to see the butterfly come to life after the caterpillar crawled into its cocoon and died.
Consider how every spring millions of people in East Tennessee plant their gardens with shells containing LIFE within (seeds) that springs forth out of the ground to become
tomatoes, okra, watermelons, corn, etc....etc... Some of you on here have already harvested the proceeds from your efforts.

If you've ever eaten a piece of fruit with seeds in it--you are eating a valid proof of the very real hope of resurrection.
And this example is the EXACT parallel the New Testament uses to explain the reality of our living, real, valid hope in resurrection (see I Corinthians 15).

And I contest your statements that "most" historians reject the validity of the Bible as a historical text.

Ben Stein removed the lid on the nasty little secret existing in the academy of the Ivory Tower in No Intelligence Allowed back in 2008.
Even though Mr. Stein is not a believer, he is appalled at the amount of intimidation that exists in academia.

As a person who has earned degrees in Chemistry and Pharmacy, I am APPALLED at the amounts of unsubstantiated drivel that exists in almost every
textbook I've ever read. How many academic frauds have to be exposed to realize that there is a determined academic bias against the Bible?

I didn't become a Christian until I was 29 years old--some 25 years ago.
I never wanted to go to Church as an adolescent--so I didn't if my dad didn't get up in time to take us.

My education concerning the Bible began in 1994.
I determined to LEARN about The Faith and the reliability of the Bible after I was born again with eternal life in Christ Jesus!
I am still learning--as are archeologists and others who continue to dig around in the dirt over there only to find out that the Bible is reliable.

I REFUSE to be intimidated by the Ivory Tower concerning the reliability of the Bible.

Finally--and to be clear--I'm NOT asking anyone to believe because I say so.

As I have said--please read the Bible for yourself.
And please examine the vast amount of historical records about the Bible--both for it and against it before making a final decision.

Mike I like your seed analogy. You could also reference insects and amphibians who go into a death like hibernation for multiple years. The problem though is that they are dormant and not fully dead. We know Christ died because of the multiple witnesses and we also know that when Romans crucified someone they would not bring the body down until the criminal was 100% dead. Also, there are multiple accounts of his resurrection. Like I said I like the analogy you are trying to portray because it's very similar but it's not 100% accurate and it could confuse the miracle that is the resurrection.

1Co 15:35 But someone will say, “How are the dead raised? And with what kind of body do they come?”
1Co 15:36 You fool! That which you sow does not come to life unless it dies;
1Co 15:37 and that which you sow, you do not sow the body which is to be, but a bare grain, perhaps of wheat or of something else.
1Co 15:38 But God gives it a body just as He wished, and to each of the seeds a body of its own.

It's not my analogy.

also chili cheese fritos were instrumental in the immaculate conception.

I could eat my weight in chili cheese fritos, which would be fun because my weight would steadily increase as I ate more chili cheese fritos thereby increasing the overall amount of chili cheese fritos I would be required to eat in order to eat my weight in chili cheese fritos.

So we’re going from historical validation of scripture to convergence of sequences? Let’s do it.
