So I'm reading The Gates of the Alamo right now, didn't know a lot of the battle for Texas independence was about slavery.

???? I’m reading a book about the Alamo right now too. I’m only about 50 pages in, but slavery hasn’t been discussed. I’m guessing it could have been part of it, but I thought it was fairly clear that the Texans just wanted their independence. They actually were ok with being under Mexican authority as long as they were recognized as their own state.

We are all guilty of it though. Hell, I basically, if not flat out called Devo stupid last night. I don't mean it, but I'm pretty sure I said it. I actually like Devo, even if we don't have the same views.
No doubt. Love yall Vol family. I don't take any of this personally...except the "diehard democrat" 😉 I just called out Pelosi the other day and said I didn't agree with them stuffing the stimulus bill. Anyone calling Trump a racist for the travel ban is a goon. I have voted Ind half of my life. I really don't care for the party (I can't imagine anyone loving either party), they just happen to align much more closely with my ideals.

I'm more than happy to say when I think that side is stupid too. Now, let's hear you all poo poo on some repubs or say something Trump has done recently you disagree with.
It could be cathartic 😉

Newt can just say he hates everybody

Absolutely I do. All I have to do is go down and sign an affidavit that you made a comment to me about shooting up a mall, or committing suicide, or hurting your wife.... and boom, your guns are gone, taken forcibly, no due process. Are you really a libertarian? I thought you'd be pissed over this loss of liberty. It's happening in Virginia as we speak. Despite a huge gathering on the capital steps in protest. Despite the NRA. Please don't tell me you are one of those LIberaltarians that I spoke of earlier.

I can not believe in gun control and still laugh at your paranoia. They are not mutually exclusive. If you sign that affidavit and it is a lie, are there not repercussions? Is that not perjury? Can you not be sued?

There were various factions of settlers. Some were okay being governed by Mexico, some wanted to stay under Mexico but have their own state and the most vocal were those who wanted complete independence and the abolishment of slavery in Mexico was a big reason why because a lot of the big land owners wanted to have plantations and working slaves.

How do you prove its a lie? It's a he said she said. In the meantime you've lost your guns. It's not paranoia. It's happening, today. Do you think that the proposed Dem laws are ok? The mag restrictions? What's an assault weapon?

Unemployment claims jump another 5.25 million, over 22 million lost jobs thanks to garbage models, flawed reporting and reckless officials.
It needs to end now. This thing is contagious, but nowhere near deadly as they would have had us believe. It's time to move on with our lives.

I would think you would have to have some proof to sign an affidavit, evidence that is permissable by law...but I'm not going to argue for gun control, I don't believe in gun control you will have to bark up a different tree.

You can sure as hell calm down though buddy, no one is going to come take away your guns, nor mine. It's posturing. Nothing more.

Oh, they're coming after them. Just to be clear, your not ok with any of these proposed new gun laws?

Oh, and read up on the red flag laws. That's literally all it takes is someone saying something. No other evidence required.

I don't get the delay but here goes:
After my dad committed suicide last May with his 38 revolver, a detective with the local sheriff's dept turned the pistol, the pillow etc over to the TBI, who, along with the medical examiner ruled correctly of suicide as cause of death . The detective told me back in July when I talked to him that the TBI still had possession of it and as soon as it was returned to the sheriff's office he would get in touch with me. I called him in Sept. and got same response and then again in Dec, and again recently in early March. So I looked up the number to the TBI office in Nashville and was basically told they couldn't tell me anything. So now it's been 11 months. WTH makes this right or wth is going on?
Any of you guys familiar with these type issues have any thoughts, ideas?

Why would you want that back?

I'll reply to this one. Follow along closely. While I personally think guns are instruments of death and that a lot of guns are in the hands of inherently bad people that do bad things on a mass scale pretty much every other week, I cannot infringe on your right to own guns. I own a single gun, that is all I need to protect my family. It is a glock. I do not need an arsenal of assault rifles, sawed off shotguns, etc to do what I need to do but if if that is what you want to do, you do it. The downside to it all is that mentally ill people can go out and get a gun as easily as you and I but there is always a down side.

So alcohol kills countless more innocent people on a daily basis so we should apply the same standards to alcohol sales?

I realize you don't have an interest in firearms, not really sure you understand what an assault weapon is. But as I suspected, you are trying to define what my needs are. You are making the case that the only reason someone needs a gun, any gun is for personal protection. I have several of what you would call an "assault" weapon and I don't have them for personal protection. I have them because I like to build them, and I like to target shoot them. I like to hunt with them. I'm sure you don't consider that a "need" because that's not what floats your boat.

I do get the feeling that I'm much more of a libertarian than you. :)

it is the fact that they have been take over by the antifa freaks that are for all those things.

Fringe factions tend to come and go. Remember when it seemed like the Tea Party was taking over the GOP?

Wouldn't take them as having taken over shiz. Biden doesn't seem like their demographic 😆

I will keep reading, but the book I am reading has numerous citations to letters and documents from the time. Stephen Austin was the leader of the Texas region and went to Mexico City and tried diplomacy. He was fine with them being under Mexican authority as long as Texas was its own state. But Mexico wouldn’t agree.

I have no doubt that slavery was part of the equation because the point of settling Texas was to be a landowner. But Andrew Jackson had his sights set on Texas for a while. He was upset at John Quincy Adams for conceding Texas to gain control of Florida, and that was pre-1820.

Then vote that way. Again I defend ur right to own them!

Austin was an outlier.

Not sure it necessarily if it is because it is a weapon. My oldest grandson committed suicide in Dec-18 (not with a gun). The police confiscated his cellphone and laptop, which he had password-protected. 16 months later my daughter has not gotten either item back. She talked to a detective back before Christmas who told her TBI had never been able to get around his blocks (he was a clever kid), but they had determined suicide was indeed the cause anyway, and also that there was no abuse that caused it) after talking to friends and school administration. But at any rate the detective told her he had no idea when TBI would return it. My daughter hasn't really pressed the issue as I am not sure she necessarily wants the items back, and I don't really care, but I sometimes wonder if maybe they did break the passcode and some cop is using it as his/her personal laptop.
