Recruiting forum off topic thread (no politics, covid, or hot button issues)

Believe what you want. Obviously our definitions of good are vastly different.
I definitely agree with you here… He would have a very difficult time starting at allof the upper level SEC programs. We need To upgrade terribly. Way too slow and un athletic compared to other upper level SEC schools. Heck freakin Kentucky slaughtered us and their offense isn’t that great at all. Lol. Recruit Recruit Recruit. Sell immediate playing time to everyone and anyone that will listen…

Banks I don't think is a bad linebacker at all. Great? No. But he's decent at least. His biggest problem imo is that he's being tasked to make up for Beasley's and Paige's many deficiencies. He's not good enough to do that. I'm not sure there are many who are quite frankly.

Beasley and Paige give it all they've got. They just don't have much to give unfortunately. Neither of them are even close to being SEC caliber players.
They're having to ask Beasley and Paige who are package linebackers to be 3 down backers. At this point I would put in Mohan and see what he does even if he's undersized.

What about the linebacker that transferred here from Texas? I think he is injured right now but does he have any eligibility left after this year?

Junior this year but I think he only played in 4 so redshirt or medical redshirt.
Edit: Senior but yes he will be back next year.

The 6-1, 226 pound linebacker is listed as a senior this season, but should have the opportunity to return for another season, thanks to the NCAA’s COVID year rule. Mitchell also has not used his redshirt season, so he could potentially have two years remaining in Knoxville.

Wasn’t he at least decent in the few games he played?

Georgia’s elite defensive line keeps the offensive lineman from getting to the linebackers…. It all works together but Banks does have more tackles for loss than any of Georgia’s linebackers.
And our d can’t stop a 3rd and long.
Many teams have better D’s and better linebackers than us, not just the #1 D in the country,.

we struggled against two pro qbs. we should have beaten pitt. florida was a winneable game. Bama is Bama. UGA is number one team in the Country.

no way banks gets the blame. what this defense has been able to do...90+ snaps a game is really pretty amazing.
Amazing job by the coaches.
We struggle against all Slightly mobile QB’s .
Watch other teams play sometimes, you’ll be amazed what really good LB’s look like

I see this every week. The same argument that Banks is good, look at all the tackles.
LB’s usually lead a team in tackles.
If you hit a guy at the line and tackle him for no gain or you tackle him 6 yards past the line it is just 1 Tackle in the stats.
UGA and good LB’s tackle at the line, Banks makes it 7 yards later.
That’s the difference. Stat line is the same, results very different

Folks literally said the exact same stuff about AJ Johnson. Low and behold, the guy fights through a ton of adversity, misses multiple years of playing football, and becomes a starter in the NFL.

It’s uncanny how the same things are being recycled with Banks.

well actually....better linebacker play and we beat Ole Miss.
Our defense held the ole miss offense to 24 points…. 7 points came from a fumbled punt return….. that was an awesome job by our defense…. If the offense wasn’t banged up then I feel we would have blown ole miss out.

Did you watch the Georgia game? Did you see how many times they rotated or tried to rotate players? They tried to do that almost every 2-3 plays…. Against Kentucky….. a defensive tackle played over 90 plays…. That is freaking unreal…. Do you think that may make a difference?

510 total yards , 279 rushing yards and giving up 13 of 24 on 3rd and 4th down conversions is not what i consider a good game. We are not SEC level at linebacker and safety play. Yes Banks is the best we have, it is not even close. We lack depth, speed and size.

Aj was the last real good LB we’ve had.
I don’t know who said what about him but it wasn’t me!! He was good

Jalen Reeves Maybin was more recent…

But if you were around VN during AJ’s career, a large percentage of the board said the same things about him that you said about Banks.

I think Banks, over time, will prove to be a good LB. I think he will play in the league.

Our LB troubles have more to do with a converted safety (Beasley) and a tweener (Page) as the only two other guys getting snaps. Banks is fine. We just don’t have an adequate 2-5.
