Leave it for now. Give those little fish something to hide in.
Nice. I saw it when I came by there earlier on my motorcycle. (I was going way to fast to throw any cans in it today.)

Don't you live in Missouri?? That's the heartland of the greatest country the world has ever seen!

That is a very good point that I overlooked.

And when does Moore's Law hit a brick wall? Especially without an eventual leap to quantum computing, your point makes a ton of (even more) sense.
Moores law hit a brick wall a while ago. Until a new material or manufacturing process is developed, we've relatively plateaued.

Bugs are a delicacy in some countries. I tried fried crickets in Thailand and while they weren’t that bad I still don’t want to ever eat them again.
The flour is the only thing our culture would tolerate for now. And that tastes just fine. But raising that many bugs isn't as cheap as you'd think.

Well... official "farms" and product production might defeat the purpose if industrial, creating packaging, shipping, etc. The process.

Was thinking more individually, like foragers but with a slight technological advancement of something that attracts them to "farm" them locally.

The cow thing is certainly low hanging fruit. Reduction is probably far easier for most of us than abstinence. My mom is very religious and has taken us being almost a full time pescatarian...though eats meat sometimes. I find it very noble and have reached her level from time to time, but not as disciplined. Lab grown meat may change everything...if scales of economy can ever reach the right price point (or even lower?).
Devo, you’re going to cause me to have nightmares tonight…bugs and lab grown meat! I prefer what the Good Lord created for us to eat and hope I am out of here before the Gaia worshippers and AI take over.

Warning: further derailment ahead

If you’re gonna go that far back then you’re glossing over WWI. The Brits had like 60k casualties on the 1st day of the Somme. That’s 3x more than the bloodiest day in American history (Antietam). Yeah I love America too but the Brits have earned that label as well.

I know this is probably a joke but it’s Fri night, I’m drinking, and I like history. Cheers.

Y’all realize that the beef, poultry, and pork we eat now have been so manipulated by man that they are hardly recognizable compared to the wild versions, right? Whatever y’all are worried about… we’ve already done.

Yes, aware of all the modifications. Also think this is the reason for all the immune disorders, etc. Just think it’s going to get a lot worse.

If some us that are older 😒, would remember what chicken looked like and tasted back when we were younger would understand what you’re saying. Food is being manipulated to keep down costs for the consumer and suppliers. Win Win, right?.

It's good he left and feels able to speak freely without potentially harming his employer (seemed he was moreso anti-Microsoft, but clearly both are big players).

Think we need people free from capitalistic pursuits to be in on this, precisely how the internet and WWW were developed without monopoly. The technology and abilities are great. But if it is married with corporations and forever intertwined with big money, then the leveraged risks are just that. Democratization of this stuff will be key.
The problem is funding from the government.

Let me just be more honest:
I doesn't matter to me if claims Nigeria or Great Britain....they're both soft!!

That's why us Americans (No Brazil you are not American) can play the toughest sport in the world🇺🇸.

China is soft! Russia is soft!!
Philippines is SOFT! ALL AFRICA AND SOUTHWEST ASIA is SOFTT!!

Only Aussies i have respect for in general as a people that don't back down or kiss up, or bully!!

You should fly to NZ,…..walk in the All Blacks dressing room and start using the word soft. I need the Amex points and will pay for your trip there. You’re responsible for getting home and any subsequent dental work.

They have concerns about it, absolutely, but they have more concerns that there is no oversight and that there’s essentially an AI arms race going on.

I trust Geoffrey Hinton’s thoughts on AI, he’s been a leader in the space for years, but it’s also hard to take some of what he says about it’s usage in full stride because he has some wild world views. He’s kind of your ultimate doomsday prepper, and not just in technology. Musk by the way, for all his interviews about it, just started his own AI company last month. Why? Because he doesn’t want to stop it, he just wants changes.

The thought that we can regulate AI to minimize the negative consequences is misguided. Did regulations have the intended effect during prohibition? Illinois has some of the strictest gun laws in the country, have you checked the statistics on gun violence in Chicago recently? Regulations are only effective to the extent that people are willing to abide by them. There always has been and always will be, someone who will go against regulations if it advantageous to them. I am not naive, that train has already left the station and I don’t believe it will be stopped. Pandora’s box has been opened and nobody knows where all of this is going to end.

To be fair lab grown meat would probably be more pure than the HGH and bio-filled crap they currently produce 😅 Cows literally get megaballs because of all the crap we pump them with.

Ok, NOW you can have your nightmares 😆😅🤣

The open letter – signed by OpenAI co-founder Elon Musk, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, co-author of the world’s most-used AI textbook Stuart Russell, and thousands of others – warns of the “out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one – not even their creators – can understand, predict, or reliably control.”

Musk, Wozniak, and thousands of others are concerned this race is beyond even the creators ability to do what you propose; understand, predict, or reliably control.

As to AI, I've already satted my skepticism when it comes to the underground. But you do have to try, within the commercial and production realms.

Nash also brought up an excellent point, and others have chimed in that Moore's Law is already tailing off and the computing capacity needed to run these environments will be fairly limited to those with vast capital. Not just any group on earth. So there are some natural barriers-to-entry. The rest you at least attempt to codify restrictions or rules to.

Agree nobody knows where it will end. No different than with the internet. Or social media. Or print media. Or TV. Or nuclear technology. Or a hundred other things. Best we can do is prepare for it.

🤢 I hope you have nightmares of bugs crawling up your nose and down your throat and tickling your bladder so that you have to pee 3 times during the night.

You’re just wanting to argue. Good thing I am bored. Social media? Print media? Not sure if the creators of those were ever concerned they were going to be the end of the human race.
