Booooo!!!Hi there, why we are on the topic of bible discussion:
Proverbs 24:17-18
17Do not rejoice when your enemy falls,
and let not your heart be glad when he stumbles,
18lest the Lord see it and be displeased,
This may be a good verse for many of those who are Christians that go onto other team's message boards and relish over the sorrow and bitterness that they spew when losing a recruit instead of simply enjoying the accomplishments of our program. (I am looking at the heart of this verse, I am not trying to say God considers our enemies to be an opposing football team)
Interesting.God: Thou shalt not covet.
Also God (?): Learn these ways to make me give you everything you're coveting.
I was thinking more as a response to the prosperity gospel that is concerned with maneuvering God into giving health and wealth.Interesting.
Never considered that pursuing eternal life is also coveting, but that makes so much sense. Also opens up a whole box of interesting examples of immaterial coveting for spiritual folks. Thanks
Edit: how have we not landed this discussion in the OT wasteland yet?
Yep. Husbands love your wife like Christ loves the church. And how did/does Christ love the church? Selflessly, for their benefit at his own expense, and continually mediating for their benefit. My favorite is when people try and use it to say women are like slaves in Christianity. Then I tell them the rest of the verses and they're dumbstruck
Keller's Cultivating a Healthy Marriage podcast is a great resource on that passage.Yep. Husbands love your wife like Christ loves the church. And how did/does Christ love the church? Selflessly, for their benefit at his own expense, and continually mediating for their benefit.
People smuggle in the natural competition of marriages to those verses. "I have to get what's mine or I won't get it", and also, "women, your husband is the boss so he'll end up getting his at your expense."
When you smuggle in the Romans 12:10 principle of love, that goes away and you get selfless service from both sides.
"Be tenderly devoted to one another in love; outdo one another in giving honor."
The only competition should be that each is trying to outdo one another in bringing about the others' benefit. Husbands are called to lead in that area. Both are ultimately trusting God for their wellbeing.

Hermeneutics are important. An old saying, āWonderful things in the Bible I see, most of them put there by you and by me.ā
The Bible can never mean today, what it did not mean to the original audience. The Scripture was written for us, but not to us. The big question we must ask is not what does a passage or verse mean to me, but what did it mean to the original reader. Once we know the original meaning then we can apply it to our own lives.
You had @Weezer with Thick and man made.āHe's ****ing built too. Thick and man made. You can tell he's sculpted because you can see it thru the pads. His ****ing vice grip thighs. Suffocating thighs. Rock hard thighs. Piping hot thighs. Great arms. Great abs. A stocky chest. Love the progress his body has made throughout his youth and now as a willing eager adultā -Swain
Iām not a fan of that particular personsās devotionals as has been noted probably too much, but please donāt feel under attack or discouraged from sharing the love of Jesus. Keep shining that light.I have been scattering seeds for a while now. I try to do it low key and inoffensively. Seems some found some soil....maybe others found some rocks. I'll reflect on what the best path forward is for the daily, but the concerns are understood and noted.
I think faith is a lot like the forums on VN. We all come to talk TN, but we quickly splinter on how we should. Even in the same house or forum, we debate internally on what is best or appropriate. I like VN because largely it provides a conducive atmosphere to share a wide range of thoughts.
Seems to me anyway that he would have never been a culture fit at Tennessee and would be asked to leave or leave on his own.
Or maybe he wishes he had exercised a modicum of professionalism and class in communications as part of his job that he could reasonably have expected might one day become part of public record. One fired Raider coach was more than enough.
I wonder if Gruden wishes that he had stayed away from woke NFL now. They went through his email and force him to resign over childish name calling.

What do you think Jon Gruden's intent was in saying that Demaurice Smith had lips the size of Michelin tires? I don't believe that a person has to be "woke" to take offense to that. At least, he did apologize for saying it .... but it was beyond stupid to put something like that in an e-mail.I doubt that. Gruden seems like someone who wouldnāt say anything in email about you that he wouldnāt say to your face. Itās more like someone who had no involvement in any of those conversations got to dictate the intent behind Grudenās words, which is unacceptable to me.
Itās good to discuss these things as a refresher of why the NFL is unwatchable.

.... and as for the NFL being unwatchable? An estimated 12.1 million viewers on TV/digital watched the 1st Round of the NFL Draft in April.
