Imagine defending the guys that have so much money that they had a government subsidized space race months after they increased their wealth by billions during an international tragedy that put so many of us Americans out of work or out of business, by exploiting the fearful desperation of the American worker to the point where they have to piss in water bottles to meet quotas, and being convinced that those workers who are requesting to be paid a livable wage are the bad guys. Just imagine having so little empathy.

Also, people need to quit pointing at the top 1%. That cutoff is around $250,000/year. Hardworking people that almost certainly pay quite a bit of taxes. It’s the .1% of that 1% (the Forbes list basically) that are cheating the system and avoiding taxes for their companies through crazy loopholes while still getting government subsidies due to having politicians in their back pocket.

Then our politicians need to close the loopholes or we should elect new politicians that will. It would be stupid for the mega rich not to take advantage of loopholes. They can afford the accountants to find those loopholes.

In 1980, the top 1 percent of income-earners in the United States made 10 percent of the total income. By 2019, they earned 19 percent—more than all of the bottom 50 percent of earners combined. This trend has alarmed economists and policymakers, and the COVID-19 pandemic may only be making things worse.

I'm not defending Bezos or the ultra rich. I'm saying they are just playing within the rules of the system. If we don't like it we should adjust the rules of the system. If the people we elect to monitor the system won't change the rules then we should elect different people.

Some of the same comments my buds and I made 30-40 years ago are still being made by folks today about retirement. Which is the point. Manage your expectations. Life comes at you fast and hard. Before you know it you will be wondering where it went even when it feels like it has just been crawling by. Ramsey's 7 baby steps are spot on principles to getting to where you want to go. SS and Medicare are essential programs in that process.

It's like ignoring the principles of what makes for a great football program. There are principles that matter. UT would never be successful if they continued to ignore them just like the other has-been programs. They got off the rails and had major trainwrecks. Supposedly intelligent people did what they wanted instead of following the principles back to success. Along the way the haters helped make it worse and even some of the fanbase bought in.

You cannot spend your way out of debt or to success. Especially if you try to do easy fixes at lower prices. It ends up costing more due to the failures. Dools, Botch, Cornbread - geez. Really sorry investing. You have to knuckle down, get smarter and go to work. Invest in the right guy who is an innovator and marry him. Give him what he needs while holding him to high expectations within a reasonable timeframe where the hard work can come to fruition. That's where we think we may be today. Which happened because the old decision makers at UT are not in authority and a different bunch who appear to understand the principles are in power.

Principled living makes for great retirements as well as football programs.

It is all about convincing folks to hate someone , blame their problems on them, and keep the politicians in power to enrich themselves.

Gotta have a boogeyman.
Politicians are the real boogeyman.

And too many vote based on political party rather than voting for an individual.

But now we've swayed into a taboo area so I expect this conversation will be deleted or removed.

Yeah the insurance (especially health) has been the biggest scam in the last few decades. Amazes me to see the earnings for the CEOs of the insurance companies, and really all they are doing is adding work for hospitals/doctors and the consumer.

It’s always been too expensive but we found a way when we decided to have children.
I was of similar mindset when I was young. My parents were all "we want us a grand kid." I was all "we will when we feel like we can support them properly." My parents said, "if you wait until you think you can afford them, you'll never have them." We did wait and regret waiting. I've been blessed with great children, 2. I regret not having 1 or 2 more and having them younger (we were in our mid 30's when we had our first, almost 40 when we had our second. You will find a way.
