I was of similar mindset when I was young. My parents were all "we want us a grand kid." I was all "we will when we feel like we can support them properly." My parents said, "if you wait until you think you can afford them, you'll never have them." We did wait and regret waiting. I've been blessed with great children, 2. I regret not having 1 or 2 more and having them younger (we were in our mid 30's when we had our first, almost 40 when we had our second. You will find a way.
We got married right out of college - had my daughter at 24 and son at 28. We didn’t have much to start but we made it work!

Then our politicians need to close the loopholes or we should elect new politicians that will. It would be stupid for the mega rich not to take advantage of loopholes. They can afford the accountants to find those loopholes.
Ive never understood this Countries desire to put uber wealthy on a pedestal. Material wealth success does not make. Germany, Sweden, Denmark artists, engineers, Docs are often held in same high social regard.

My point? While I laud hard work, and appreciate contribution to society. If you cam afford a 100 ft yacht, you re gonna pay taxes. Shouldnt be able to skirt that or pay less than my middle class family.

I have a family of five and pay basically 0% income tax due to child tax credits and standard exemptions. I make a decent living and pay virtually nothing in taxes. That means that most of the people making less than me probably pay little to nothing too. It also means that most of the taxes are paid by people that make more than me. So, how much should the uber wealthy pay if you don't think they are paying enough right now?

Eh, that's not exactly true. I am with you that I don't want to pay more in taxes. However, I am an independent contractor and pay more in taxes than the regular W2 employee. Until they raised the child tax credit (I have 4 kids) recently (and you might also include the tweaks by the Trump administration), I paid 15 years in taxes with a middle class income. Those child tax credits are going away, too.

I have said for years that the middle class is getting screwed, especially with health care. The low income gets it paid for, and the wealthy have the money.

70-80%, just off top of my head.

It's all about wealth redistribution. They want what others have, plain and simple. Like you said, many middle class pay zero income taxes at the end of the day. Everyone that works does pay 1/2 of the SS and MC/MA regardless of what they make. If you pay zero taxes then to pay less would be to have a negative tax rate which is what many want.

I'm a little late to this party, so i'm way behind. Are you saying you would like for the wealthy to have 70-80% of their earnings go to taxes?
I read that too and I think he's serious.

oh its a serious question...

ill leave that up to Congress. Certainly should pay more taxes than a middle class earner, as was not the case during the dark years.

By dark years do you mean the time that the entire economy grew from top to bottom? The time with all time low unemployment for all demographics? The time without rampant inflation when I could buy a used car or bacon and not take out a second mortgage? Yep, the dark ages indeed.

You want the uber wealthy to pay 75% income tax? You realize that completely disincentives them from doing what they are doing to earn all of those millions. If they can make $1 million and only keep $250k or the can make $250k and keep $200k why would they put in the extra work required to make $1 million? So the government can take it and give it to people who didn't earn it?

And that people with that kind of $$$ have the mobility to take their $$$ elsewhere. Case in point, Gov Murphy of NJ proposed a big tax hike a couple years back. Top business owner in state warned him if he passed it he’s moving to Florida. Gov Murphy signed bill, dude moved and the state legislature had to go to special session to rebudget the year because that one person threw the whole budget for the year off.

Yes, and the not wealthy end up holding the bag regardless. The problem statement should be something like. "How can we help all Americans gain more wealth?" It should not be, "Uber wealthy American's increased their wealth more than middle class Americans, so how can we penalize the uber wealthy?"

Ultimately, what it comes down to is that people that want to take money from the uber wealthy and distribute it out to those who didn't earn it are seeking power. Probably not people posting on here. They are kind hearted people who see an injustice and are lashing out at the perceived perpetrator. It is the people that are taking and giving the money (Government) that is seeking power. Most of them do not know how to go into the private sector and make a bunch of money so they go into politics. Then they can take money from those that do know how to make a bunch of it and gain more power by giving it to those that didn't earn it so they will vote to keep them in power.

Sorry for the politics but it is so painfully obvious anymore that it is permeating all parts of our national conversation.

Did you not read my post? I make a decent living and pay virtually zero. I may or may not be the norm, but if a large portion of the middle class is paying at or near 0% effective tax rate then that means the vast majority of the taxes are already coming from the wealthy and uber wealthy.

Do you itemize or claim standard?

Also, now that you're being a giant moranic Zollicofer, i'm changing my mind...

All rich people should pay 80-90% taxes.

I have almost always claimed the standard. There was a short while when we had a rental house that we had enough to itemize, but now that the standard has basically been doubled I don't think I will ever itemize again.

Heck, why not 100%? Turn the rich into slaves for the lower and middle class. Oh, wait. The Soviet Union tried that already and it didn't turn out well. Blow it out your zollicofer. Lol

I'm good with the middle part of this...I believe in a large federal Gov't and 100% taxation...so large that we have to build out into the Atlantic Ocean. No more water, only Brawndo.

Seriously, I would like to see Jeff Bezos driving a used Tesla in future, that would make me happy.

BTW, Capitalism (in its true original form) and Corporatism are not the same thing and shouldn’t be used synonymously.

I do not like Corporatism in its current form.
When MC'ers are paying 18-21% and Uber Rich less than that we have a problem. Also, Corporate Tax cuts, with idea of privatizing infrastructure upgrades yielded billions for Big Business, huge pay bumps for CEO's & little to no gain for workers. Much of money went overseas, safe from taxation.
