'22 Recruiting Forum: Official Alabama Pregame/Game Thread

I want to get ahead of this. @frank, can you banish Glitch to the Off Topic thread until after the bama game? Throwing his game day thread in there last week helped to create good juju for the LSU game. TIA.

Given that this doesn’t factor in the qb situation and that defense compliments offense, i would say with BY at less than 100% i would favor alabama by 6 and without him i think you could flip this outcome. BY is going to be looking to avoid hits which will make him a much easier target for our pass rush. Nice to see a lot of dark blue on our side - that’s the mark of a really good football team.

Bama is a better team than UT. But without a healthy BY and with a raucous stadium feeling a way it hasn’t felt in over 15 years, UT can beat them.

Have to capitalize on Bama mistakes and make none of our own
That's how I feel about it. 100% BY means we have to have a perfect game and probably a little help. If BY isn't 100% though, I think we can win by just playing a solid game even with a mistake or two. That backup qb was not good.

Even though Bama defense isn't what it used to be, it'll be the best one we've played all year. We won't cruise to 37 points against them like last week. Defense will have to continue to get better each week.

This is the first time I've felt like we have a legitimate chance since Saban has been there. I feel like we actually are a top ranked team, not just a pretender like in the Butch years. Have to play a great game though to win it.

No...they think Alabama has a really good defense that can hold us down.

That D hasn’t faced anyone.

- Utah State
- Ewers got hurt so TX had a backup QB
- Vandy
- A&M whose offense is stuck in 1994
- ARK, averaging 29.5 ppg (bottom 1/3 of league) put up 26 on them

Not saying their defense isn’t good, but it hasn’t been tested like the Vols will test it.

Agreed, but it'll be a better defense than anything we've seen this year.

One good argument that i noticed is that they struggle offensively on third down and defensively in early downs according to those stats. That’s a really nice matchup for an offense that thrives on early downs and a defense that struggles on third downs. Could be a recipe for more points than expected for the vols.

Comparison:

QB: with BY, push. Without, Vols big.
RB: bama
WR: Vols
TE’s: push
OL: push

DL: push
Edge: bama
LB: Vols (toot sucks)
DB: Bama big.

Here is my take:
QB: push
RB: bama
WR: Vols
TE’s: Bama
OL: Bama

DL: push
Edge: bama
LB: Bama
DB: Bama

Special Teams: Push

Depends where you put Anderson. But where you don't put him is Vols. I'd call him an edge. So LB would be Tennessee for me.
I think our LB’s have exceeded my expectations for the year but they are not better than Bama. I think DL is only group on defense that is playing comparable to Bama and unfortunately I still give them the edge there.

I still think we can beat them as a team but when you break it down to each position group, it’s hard for us to say we are better than them anywhere but WR.

Maybe I'm crazy, but watching Alabama the last couple weeks I think they are taking a heck of a risk playing their normal 3-4 against us like they did A&M and Arkansas. Obviously the key there is disrupting the line and forcing errant throws and TFL, which they've obviously been great at. However, that's putting their secondary in a heck of a bind if were able to scheme around that which I believe Heup and Golech can do (and Hendo Cinco can obviously execute).

Anyone else notice this as well?
