Recruiting Forum: Official Appalachian State Pre-Game/Game Thread

Preston had like 4 receptions in the first half of the 1st quarter.

Of course, we don't throw him another ball all night. Smh

I don't think Appy St is any better than we thought they were; we just played very poorly. The half-full perspective is we just had a bad night and we still have three weeks before conference play.

Just trying to make it better than it was... But I still think they go 11-1

I feel you there. I keep telling myself that come-from behind victory was what we needed to get over the late collapses last year. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road and we see a much more focused and disciplined team executing at a higher level and letting it fly in Bristol.

I do think App St beats Miami. Miami is going to be down this year, and scheduling that game in Boone was just a bad idea.

Lots of work to do before Battle of Bristol. Thankfully we have a couple of extra days to do so by playing early (Thursday). Why the hell is Jack Jones out there? That was some of our best OL play last year him and Hall. Can't wait for Hall to get back he is badly missed. Coleman had the worst game of his career tonight.

No way. However, there's something to be said for the idea that we were App State's Super Bowl and our coaches/players were looking ahead to VT and Florida.

A lot of things went very, very wrong in that game and we still won. Against a good team.

-The Sutton punt return flipped momentum badly.

-The PW non-TD was even worse.

-Dobbs made an uncharacteristically stupid decision and threw away a scoring opportunity.

-JRM's targeting penalty hurt the defense.

-The OL played well under its potential.

-App State scored on a ridiculous essentially no-look TD pass to a WR who was covered by Vereen.

I think that without the bad luck (and the team still playing bad), we win something like 24-10 and the game is never in question in the 4th. It still wouldn't have been the type of win we wanted, but it would have prevented the heart attack ending.

Disagree about our coaches looking ahead. We've had 8 months to get ready. No way I'm buying that.

The rest is spot on. Especially the bad breaks. Preston had a TD, Sutton flipped momentum badly, JRM going out was killer and that TD pass they had was pure luck on a well defended play. All of those things gave app state juice.

I would add that review on the josh smith catch was crucial too. We seemed to have some momentum gathering at that point and that killed it.

We'll be better next week. Maybe not as good as we thought yesterday, but better than tonight. I honestly think that muffed punt set the tone for the whole game.

But for a team that's always called "resilient," we got awfully rattled tonight.

I agree that Evan needs to get the ball on offense. I don't understand why it hasn't been tried. I imagine he can take a handoff on a first down middle run too.
