Recruiting Forum: Official Arkansas Pre-Game/Game Thread

I just hope some of our idiot fans leave the coaches' families out of this. They support their husband/dad through all of this. We get to get on a message board and question everything they do. Their families have to shed tears with them and deal with all f the pressure, although they have done nothing wrong.
This. Butch is a good guy and he's trying. He's just not got it.

Agreed. Many highs in being a coach's wife or kid, but you know this has to be heart breaking. And as mad about this as we all are, CBJ has more invested in this than most if not all of us.

I'm *almost* there. I wish I had not cared tonight.

I still care, because I love the Tennessee Vols! They are my alma mater. However, I decided after last week that I have to start pulling back some on how much I get worked up about the games. It can't be healthy. Tonight I was better and stayed calmer than I have in a while. Still frustrating having to watch us struggle when I know we have the talent to win. Not sure what the answers are. I do know 2-5 looks very real now.

So if we somehow figure out how to go 7-5 and win a bowl game to get 8 wins...is that enough improvement for fans/recruits? Right now, I'm skeptical of 7 wins.

Ditto for me. To the word.

I'm that way too. I think I'm going to start doing what another poster said they did which was record the games and watch them later when they knew the outcome.

Don't know how the rest of the season is going to turn out, but it doesn't look good. And the thing is, Admin wont make a change, they can't. I want Butch to make it, but he needs to go out and get an OC that is aggressive. He needs to let them run their offense.

I think he tries to micro manage everything and its catching up with him.

2-5 looks real and it will be very difficult to win the last 5 in a row unless major changes happen. This is a beaten and battered team, both physically and emotionally.

Tonight was most concerning of all, because the players lost heart. They were playing at home in a crucial game and 100K loyal fans came out to support them on a miserable wet night and they played without any fire at all. Travis Stephens said after Florida the team was on the verge of packing it in and it looks like they have.

Why do we always have such mentally fragile teams? Other teams dig deep and tough it out. Why can't we?

Zero changes will happen. Butch will stay for another year and keep spouting coach speak until his final presser. He is NOT the guy. I just hope the AD realizes it before we lose the talent that makes this job appealing.

Butch has worked his butt off to turn this program around. I know he has, everyone on this board knows he has, and everyone who remotely follows football knows he has. The problem is that it seems he's scared to hire coordinators, who he may not be able to control. Why? Why so insecure? If Charlie Strong is fired and not hired as a HC elsewhere, then I would send Jancek packing and offer Strong $1 million+. I would demote Debord to the OL coach, fire Mahoney and Azzani, and hire a proven WR coach and OC/QB coach. Just my suggestions but I know it won't happen.

Yeah, But Butch is getting paid, win or lose. I don't care what his feelings are anymore. If he cared about UT as much as people seem to think, he would never have hired Debord or Jancek as coaches. I am off his train.

I guess I'm defining "caring" a little bit differently, but I think we're talking about the same thing. I can't stop caring, but I'm just going to watch the games and be happy if we win instead of getting emotionally involved. Just gotta reign it back. It'll make the wins a little less fun, but I'd rather not be so frustrated after the losses.

Well I'm back to normal don't care form. Better game plan on offense, defense has gotten awful somehow. Maybe next year guys. I blame butch overall because he's the coach but it wasn't blatantly horrible like it has been. Glad I've slipped back into sweet apathy so I can enjoy weekends again.

Don't know the answer, bud. One thing that I do know is a lot of these guys have been part of some tough, tough losses...gut-wrenchers. 2 already this year and then tonight. Florida last year. UGA and Vandy the year before. Just some bad beats. Makes you start thinking that is how all the close games will turn out. We need strong-minded guys to go out and make the plays. Never thought I would see a Butch-led team look like they lost interest. Scary thought with 7 games to go. This could get really ugly if something doesn't change soon.

Butch works hard and wants to succeed here, but sometimes, people just aren't good enough. There aren't that many elite coaches, and Butch wasn't ready for this job.

I think we'll clean house next year-- new AD, new HC, all new staff. I just wonder how much damage has been done with players and recruits.
