'21 Recruiting Forum: Official Bowling Green Pregame/Game Thread

We only win because of the talent difference. We did not out execute a very inferior team and our coaching staff did not out-coach their staff. I’m afraid it’s going to be a long season but tonight’s game can be completely irrelevant to next weeks performance so I’m not going to dismiss the season after one game.

Our staff made great adjustments..especially in the running game at half. That was a false statement...our staff did out coach theirs.

Some of yall should consider accepting that we are not a serious contender. Thats ok for this year. Let the expectations stay low and lets enjoy the build. We've got so much room to grow.

I like Milton. Wasnt perfect but didn't get a ton of help from receivers. Made some nice runs and some nice throws especially early on. A couple he would probably like to have back. I could see him having some incredible games along the way if he figures it out. We need that kinda ceiling at QB to have a punchers chance.

I think we'll have a pretty fun year with plenty of growing pains. Got to keep improving. Tonight was not the finished product.

Go big orange forever
Milton appears to be of average talent excluding the strong arm. I give him a C grade. Maybe our depth at receiver will be better next week and after.

I don’t. It was his biggest problem at Michigan as well.
When there are only three or so thrown a game, that’s not the biggest problem a QB could have. Michigan also didn’t have CJH coaching him, so ya never know what he will learn

I saw Hyatt drop two passes...one was a fastball thrown a little behind him and the second was a perfect throw. I also saw Milton not see numerous guys running open, make two late overthrows to a wide open Tillman, throw one "up" to the corner of the endzone that might've hit 10' in height, and complete very few passes after the first quarter. He had a bad game against a horrible team. That doesn't mean he's a lock to stink it up the entire season, but any unbiased eyes would see that he didn't play well. I'm plenty biased and would usually look for reasons to see sunshine and rainbows, but he was mostly ineffective throwing the ball.
He will have to play better in the SEC and well as the whole team collectively.

Still mediocre to decently good, same as offseason. Not much was ever going to be discovered vs BGSU, barring an anomaly.

About what I expected to me. Some poor periods, but mostly solid. Far from great, but we looked pretty good as far as fundamentals. We were mostly able to out-talent and muscle them.

Pitt will be a ton tougher, but nothing tonight made me think we aren't still nose-to-nose with them. I do feel better that, if Pitt shuts down our passing routes, we can have an effective rushing attack. Didn't get why Joe was so lackadaisical and flat-footed. Has to stay nimble and prepared to make decisive actions moving forward. Will take too many sacks vs legit pass rushes.

GBO!
It was weird the way he would just stand there with his feet nailed to the ground, like a statue. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that before.

I know our DL is borderline elite. And Theo Jackson is a manimal. And our RBs are really good. I’m still scratching my head at our pass play calling and the drops.
Offensively - our play calling will look nothing like that against better competition. We ran it down their throat the second half because we could.
I’m definitely not ready to crown our dline because they played well against a vastly overmatched oline that included a true freshman walk on center.. they looked good though, so I am hopeful

Really liked that we were in control basically the whole game. There was no worry about a freak loss, been a while since I've not had anxiety during a game.

Milton has a cannon, but he's going to have to be better against anyone that's not horrible like BG. The standing still pointing at wr to go deep means he's locking in and not going through progressions. And he'll never have that much time the rest of the year, so that has to get cleaned up.

Too many drops.

Run game looks solid.

Defense looks decent. Wheel route got us a couple tiles and slants still seem to be tough for us.

Good warm up game, but I think Pitt beats us if we play like that against them. Hopefully we'll see a big improvement.

Defense- A
They lined up correctly most of the night. The D line got pressure on the QB without having to blitz. Had trouble in the 2nd quarter but only gave up two FG’s.

Offense- C
Offensive line look good most of the game. The running game gets an A but the passing game gets a D-. 100 yards passing going late into the 4th is just really bad. I know BG dropped 7-8 all night but we had receivers open all night. They either couldn’t catch the balls or the balls were not thrown well. That TD to Tillman would be an interception in league play. Both Milton and the receivers have to get much, much better.

Happy for the win, but so much to work on.

I will say I believe most teams we play will have a hard time with simmons, butler, Thomas,Terry and the rest of them. Even Trembley got after it a little bit. Scary part is simmons, Terry, Baron and thomas should keep getting better bc they haven’t played much football at all.

Not “badly wrong” but “spot on” because it looked like we were headed toward a 30 point plus half. They dominated in TOP and shut us out in the 2nd Qtr because of adjustments.
I f'n quarter and then they put a f'n stop to it for good on both sides of the ball...c'mon man..bad take....horribly bad take.
