I haven’t seen a near perfect team all season.
So I’m saying, Tennessee is a really good football team. The fact that we have ONE legit playmaking game changer (Dylan Sampson) and no one outside can has been better than average makes the oLine deficiency even bigger.
Our OLine hamstrings the offense and our lack of experienced LBs hamstrings the defense.
the D Line was able to mask what we have at Linebacker for close to 10 weeks.

This team is capable of beating any and everyone at home but it just takes more to win on the road.
And that’s usually less penalties and mental errors.

My honest grades
QB - A-
OLine - B+
WR - C
RB - A-
DLine - C-+
LB - B-
DBs - B
Special Teams - B-

You grading on a curve?
The OLine was a C- at best.
LBS : F flat out horrible in every situation of the game.
and the DBs : C-.

Nico played a very good game, I’ll give you that.

Thornton and Brazzell have all the athletic ability you could ever ask for out wide but man are they soft as baby ****. We need someone to step up outside even if that means benching any of the 4 veterans who have been pretty mediocre this year.

At some point Matthews has to get a legitimate shot. Him and Brazzell have been in the program essentially the same amount of time so no reason he shouldn’t know the playbook just as well.

It might also be worth looking into a new WR coach. I know players love Pope but outside of Hyatt’s 2022 season, we haven’t seen any significant playmaking out wide nor any huge strides in player development at that position. Webb and Nimrod being examples.

Dude the OL is trash. Look at UGA, he had all day to throw.
He’s thrown for 200+ yards three times this year.

Again, it’s okay to blame our 8mil QB as well. He didn’t play an “A”, no one in there right mind would grade that performance an “A” lol

JG threw 2 TDs in his first game against UGA @ UGA with the same ****** OL.

“A” performance lol

he's a freshman.

Yeah he missed some throws. That sailed pass late over Squirrel who was double covered on 3rd down while Bru was breaking into an open middle of the field stands out.

But the lack of reliability from both OL and WR has made Nico gunshy IMO. He’s one read, check down, run progressing right now which kinda makes our offensive scheme useless. But that’s on CJH more than Nico tbh

I am not on board the Kelsey pope train. He can go, not one single Power 5 school will be waiting to snatch him up. Same thing with Coach Elarbe. He should have been gone.

JG isnt Nico, Nico isnt JG. Cmon man. Just looking at two play, Nico is far more advanced.

I will add also Nico is stymied by play calling.
Similar stats as JG, both first year starting.

Top 3 WRs from both teams have similar numbers through 10 games

Same problems on the OL

Here’s the difference between the two teams…Sampson and the defense. Our RBs that year were Chandler and Tim Jordan.

If we didn’t have this years defense or run game, we would be at 4-5 wins currently.

I mean we know why Elarbee is still here (and probably will be forever or until he can get a “promotion” elsewhere).

Pope baffles me. Get a guy who can develop legit NFL WRs and then pay the players a bag to get them here. No need anymore for assistants whose only value is seemingly recruiting.

you've made your argument. now what?

we've established we have JG v.2. now what?

The only thing we can really do is start by recruiting better. No one wanted to hear, but it hasnt been good enough. WR, OL, DL, LB. Add safety in there.

Its gotten better, but its no where good enough. We should NEVER worry about beating Vandy, ever.

That said, Nico isnt JG man.

I’ll take it a step further:

JG in his first year against Bama, Florida, Auburn, UGA:
698 passing yards 4 TDs / 2INTs

Nico in his first year against Bama, Florida, OU, UGA:
724 passing yards 2 TDs / 2 INTs

(Arkansas is prob better than OU, but he had less yards and no TDs in that game)

Again, apparently better offense, but same performance

Honestly, I dont care about any of that. It has no bearing or impact on future outcomes.

I'm glad you see the corollary. I just dont see how it matters.

Jennings, Palmer, and Calloway were all NFL WRs that JG got to throw to.

Which one of Bru, Brazzell, Thornton, or Squirrel is playing anywhere close to that level?

Nico could definitely play better, but let’s not act like JG throwing 50/50 fly routes to much more talented WRs is really indicative of anything.

Not to mention part of Nico’s TDs being low is that our RB is setting the single season TD record.
