Recruiting Forum: Official Georgia Tech Pre-Game/Game Thread

Agreed. Our fanbase does it to themselves. For those who ring Butch for his butchisms and "stupid things like a trash can ont he sideline", pot meet kettle. I will say that our wideouts dropped way too many passes in the first half and I couldn't believe that. They got their act together and performed. IMO, they catch 4 of those dropped passes, especially the 3-4 that were dropped on the first two offensive series alone, Dormady settles in quicker and the outcome is different. But, we still won and that is hard to do being 14 points down to a triple option team.

Play calling I put on the coaches. We abandoned the run at times we shouldn't have and went full Chaney. Never go full Chaney when you have Kelly as you RB. The dude Mack trucked GT defenders. I think Dormady should have kept the ball to keep the defense more honest, though. Notice how they reacted when he kept it the one time in the fourth quarter? He needs to keep it 3-4 times a game. He isn't a Dobbs threat on the ground, but he will gain 4-6 yards consistently with that and I am okay with that. Use it.

The clock control of a triple option team is so hard to overcome. It was a tale of two halves on the offense. The poor defense was so gassed due to the offensive woes in the first half. The defense was out there for 2/3 of the game. I don't care if you are Bama, that is tough to overcome.

Playing calling (offense) was bad in the first half but the WRs did no favors. The second half seemed to be better well adjusted after Dormady settled in. My only gripe about the defense was the DBs playing off. I understand the fear of cut blocks given our depth and injury woes. Thankfully, we wont have to play a team like that again.

The offense did seem to get better when Dormady was a threat to keep it.

I think last night will be an anomaly for the defense. Most teams, even Bama, struggles to defend the triple option. Especially if they don't have to play against them year in and year out. While there are a lot of negatives to look for in last night's performance, there are plenty of positives as well. I don't think either will be indicative of our team. We need a larger sample size before we are quick to pass judgment. While you may not be happy with the team's resiliency, it is an important intangible for a team.

exactly. GT is gonna shred alot of teams this yr with that kid at QB.

You put JQ in that game last night in the second half we lose but hey u would be happy right?

How do you know that? Georgia Tech was blowing coverages on the backend. We were missing guys like crazy just dumping the ball off to the check down. People saying they got pressure with three fail to say the dude just should have stepped up in the pocket.

On that throw into triple coverage to JJ in the second quarter. Looked at JJ the whole time.

Ok we will go with a freshman coming into his first game ever at half to lead us to victory...love those odds.

Did you expect the 1st start to be perfect man? Were you alive when Peyton came in to play? They usually get better. Also, a win like that shows his team he can do anything. They believe in him as do I.

How does that change? A 1st start is a 1st start. He's older, wiser, and in has been in the system albeit with different coordinators.

Lemme ask you this, was it his fault the game was close?

It's how we started on O that was the problem last night. Not complimentary football...O needs to start fast in that game so D can be more aggressive and tech is forced to press a little.

Bit of redemption in the end though.

Why are you all giving a grace period to a junior? Composure is one thing that should have been there over anything. Dude played like a true freshman. IMO

Game experience does not equate to your class year sorry but you are very wrong in this case.

What exactly did he do that was terribly wrong? Miss a few throws? Dang man I'd hate for you to be my kids coach. Dude played like it was his 1st start. Thats it.

being a pouty crybaby is probably a big part of the reason Butch did not pick him to lead this team, not to mention pulling your qb just tells them both that the coach doesn't have either of their backs, if JG shat the bed then he would know he was on a short leash too, the man took some time to settle in... so what.. i dont know what's more satisfying, the come from behind victory or the extreme butthurt by all the so called fans that wanted so badly for QD to fail so they could see JG

hopefully JG gets some series this week, has some success, and gets his mind right, the 93 yard drive let me know that QD has what it takes, don't mean he cant shat the bed either but he led the team to victory

So junior QBs should play like a deer caught in the headlights now? I'm just asking a question.....

If a deer in the headlights throws 2 td's and zero int's then turn on the spotlight I'm in. Its as if you're biased against him and cannot/will not see that he had a heck of a game.

QD definitely stared down his receivers. That stuff will get picked come SEC play. A lot of work to be done by the time we head to Gainesville. Kelly, Callaway, Bituli, Taylor --- beasts last night.

Irregardless if Butch did or didn't promise JG anything for last night, JG's piss poor attitude on the sideline better get fixed now. That is not the actions of a leader. Hopefully his dad got ahold of his a$$ 30 seconds after he got to the locker room.

1-0

1st start in prime time against a team that was giving us limited opportunities? That he lead to a win with a 14 point deficit in the 4th? Ummm, yeah i can give him a little leadway and still expect him to improve.

Ya, especially false starts and illegal motions. Their RB were moving toward the Los pre snap so many times.

Officials not making obvious calls is open concession of their bias. Fireable offense, IMO.

The facemark yank on Callaway's last catch, the intentional clip into Gaulden's back, the rolling starts forward, etc. - were all open for multiple officials to see each time. Disgusting.
