‘23 Recruiting Forum: Official Kentucky Pregame/Game Thread

And we need to remember that UK had a bye week while we played Bama. That’s a massive advantage for them. We need to rest the guys who have some injuries. Go out and get a big lead by halftime this Saturday, and get some rest for Mizzou. I want to see us play man the entire game this Saturday, and find DBs we can trust in man coverage. Stop playing this zone most of the game.

Obviously, 100% agree. Get reasonably good at something on the backend. After three seasons we know it is not zone. If they were getting picks playing it, then keep playing it and amp the pass rush up. But they are not getting picks. They are only getting PBUs when in man coverage as well. I really do not understand how highly paid coaches at that level do not see it and fix it. JMO, they should be in man 75% of the time, then play some quarters and occasional zone blitz unless well ahead and playing the clock. Man has been the only coverage they play that leads to PBUs, contested passes that pushes opponent QBs to be more accurate, and puts the defender in position to make the tackle quickly.

You have to recruit to the scheme and if that is what the coaches believe they have been doing, they have to put the players on the field who can execute it. If this three year result is the best they believe they have to do that, then the scheme has to change to become more successful because they have failed to develop the players to execute the desired scheme.

I do not understand how they do not understand. It has nothing to do with us being wannabe armchair coaches and everything to do with observation. Watch the video.

One last point, the SEC can stick their trash officiating up their ...

Great points. Obviously, agree about the officiating! Can’t wait to see which crooked crew we get for the Missouri game and then Georgia. As soon as you find out who the head referee is, you know immediately which way the whistle will blow.

I’ll gladly eat crow. Begrudgingly picked the Mildcats but our Vols came thru.

Milton is still NOT the guy.

Martinez and his secondary are utter TRASH. Hadden or no Hadden.

Defense got lucky.

Secondary looks a lot worse when pass rush is ineffective.

Milton was plenty good.

Why are you posting negative sh*t after another W?

Smh some folks just like being grumpy.

You are very correct. Bourbon was talking a good bit last night and should’ve refrained from posting. After sleeping it off I’m ecstatic about the W especially for a night, road SEC game.

Milton managed the game well. I guess I know his potential is a lot more and so want to see it but he just handicaps himself. All-in-all he did enough for us to obviously get the victory.

Kudos to our run game against their DL. I hope Sampson can improve between the tackles going into next year because he will be a full force if so.

Officiating…. Well, it’s an abomination and just glad our guys continued to fight uphill and overcome. The league HAS to hold these guys accountable. I would already be fined and suspended if I was talking to the media.

If you haven’t listened to the mark stoops post game presser…. He literally sounds like he’s holding back tears answering questions. Sounds completely defeated.
He’s a good guy and coach, he should bail out of UK asap and go to a school that actually supports football and he would actually be successful

We stopped the run with some authority.
Leary had the best game of his career.

We were efficient offensively and were timely on defense.

This was a great win on the road.

Gotta find a way to clean up penalties.

Our run game tho....

In 2021, Devin Leary threw for 3400 yards, 35 TDs, and 5 INTs. He had multiple 300+ yard games and a 400 yard game. He had 5 games with 4TD’s. Not quite automatically the best game of his career.

It seems like we always ran deep zone last night leaving 10 yards of cushion, and Leary ate us alive on comebacks and out routes, if we tightened our coverage we probably would have allowed a lot less of yards.

Basically the sec is telling us that every team has the discipline of the greatest NFL teams to have ever played.

This **** is sickening.
The commentators even talked about how us and Lube U are two of the most penalized teams in FBS. Did Lube suddenly develop some discipline? Doubtful.

His level of success has a ceiling. He’s trying to play Bama football from early Saban years but with lesser talent. And he’ll never have that talent. UK runs like the 3rd fewest plays per game in CFB.

He hasn’t evolved at all during his tenure. He’d flame out somewhere else.

Yea I noticed how when UK had the ball it was like 40 seconds of game clock between each play
