I just don’t think they can score that much
if we don't help their cause, nah. we play our best, they play their best, we're gonna win by at least 10.
the O line will have it's work cut out for them dealing with that D Line, for sure. so to me, this game, offensively is about winning 1st and 2nd down to get the tempo going and getting them in to personnel packages they don't want to be in. so you have to figure defensively, they want to get us in to 3rd and long....so we'll know how it's going to go relatively quickly.
but i still love the fact we had a week off. i think this team "gets it" and won't have a let down.
defensively, i mean i'd be crazy not to be a little worried, simply because we've seen another team with similar offensive struggles come in to Neyland and look fantastic against this defense. LSU has to be thinking the same is in store for them, especially at Tiger Stadium. I just hang my hat on the fact that even with how FL played offensively overall, they were still put in positions/situations that were advantageous to the defense. If we continue to do that, we can/should win more of those situations. basically, i'm hoping that what FL was able to do in special teams and on 4th downs was just "their day", and it can't be repeatable by other teams.
as for how the game starts, i'm basically giving up on thinking that means anything. we've not started great in any game really, and every opponent LSU has faced has put them in a deep hole to start games...and neither has mattered. LSU comes back and wins or has a chance to win. we dig ourselves out of the hole we create, and find a way to win. so i wont' freak out either way as to how this game starts.
i predicted 42-23ish type game earlier this week. i'll back that down a little bit to a 33-20ish type game. i think while we've been very good in the red zone, i do think LSU's defense in a short field, less space to defend, actually plays in to their strength defensively, and allows that D line to make their presence known. so we may kick a few more FG's than we're used to.
The one thing i've not figured in here or counted on in any way, is i have no idea how many stops we can/will get on defense. To me, a punt is as good as a turnover. if we are able to stop them on at least 3 possessions, includes a missed FG maybe, i can't imagine they have a shot at keeping pace, and that's what could blow this game open for us.
60 minutes, don't turn it over or make the dumb mistakes that kill a drive, or keep one of their drives going, we win and cover. if we help them...then all bets are off....to me it's as simple as that.
