The choice we had was to stay in zone. Keep everything in front of us and make sure tackles. Hopefully you make a hit that jars the ball loose for an int or fumble. I don't recall ever getting a good hit on a receiver. That attacked us with impunity. I can sure as hell tell you that putting freshmen DBs isolated on an island and expecting anything but disasterous results is telling.I just don’t see what choice we had. We had to get pressure on Grier somehow and we tried. We tried to only bring 3 or 4 at that start of the game and it wasn’t working at all
We make some adjustments start blitzing heavily from the nickel and A gap and we force two straight 3 and outs. Ounce they changed their formations and started leaving a Tight end or a RB back (a couple times they chipped our nickel blitz with a motion fake, which was really savvy on their part) to block there was nothing we could do they were just better than us. Several times we were in good position and Grier just made throws.

Also, you claim that JG killed their zone but have yet to explain why we didn't really score against it.
Because we kept calling terrible run plays on third and mediumThe choice we had was to stay in zone. Keep everything in front of us and make sure tackles. You know what the saying is.... Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. I would have went to a zone, disguised my blitzes. I would have made Grier have to think. The way we did all he had to do was throw the ball up towards sigle coverage whether that was from a pre-snap read or throw to the receiver where the blitz came from. It was way too easy.
And by the way. He had all day for the most part anyway.
I agree that's why you don't put them in sure lose situations.I don’t know how much zone we played, but they threw a wide open pass to Sills early when we were in zone.
I understand not leaving your freshmen on an island, but zone is a passive defense against a good QB. The problem was our safeties weren’t good in coverage.
It doesn’t have to be all zone, just don’t leave your S in that bad spot. When they started keeping 7 in to protect that corner or nickel blitz wasn’t getting home anyway so you have a guy not affecting the QB but also not in coverage. No reason to send that blitz if it isn’t gonna get there.I don’t know how much zone we played, but they threw a wide open pass to Sills early when we were in zone.
