Their first scoring drive went 5 plays in 85 yards with us playing zone. It was their shortest TD drive of the game I believe.
I don't count first drive. It takes a bit to settle in. I would have much preferred they keep everything in front of them and make a sound tackle, which was supposed to be much improved. I'd have to go back and look (and I sure as hell ain't doing that) but how much if that first drive was missed, bad tackles?

I didn’t expect much but the thing that killed me was how bad our pass rush is.
And the 3rd and 4, where we called a inside draw play was such a poor play call especially in the context of the game. JG had it going, we were moving the ball, just scored ... then that play call and subsequent punt... 👎🏾

That was the worst call in the game.

QB like Grier can really make your D backs look really bad. He had some incredible throws and catches by his WR's. But don't disagree about them them looking lost and bad several times. They got schooled today.

Yep, reminded me of Mayfield and Mariotta.

Yea, those plays had me scratching my head.

I would rather make them earn it as opposed to giving up the big plays over the top expecting a shaky S to make the play.

To each their own but at least if you’re blitzing and being aggressive then you have a chance at making stuff happen. Just sitting back in zone or whatever. You don’t have a chance again a team and qb like that.

Was a puzzling play call. I think either we were trying to catch them off guard or we expected to at least gain some yardage and then go for it on 4th down. Once we didn’t get anything you had to punt.

The offense seemed schizophrenic to me. We’d come out one drive totally in shotgun and another drive totally under center. One drive we were totally committed to the run, then in another drive totally committed to the pass.

Kongbo and Darrell Taylor being total non factors was a killer. Our only chance would have been to hit Grier early and often.

That's not necessarily true. Many a balls are knocked loose and tipped closing on the ball causing interceptions and fumbles. Ask any receiver if they'd rather go against a zone or man to man.

The fact is that as long as your defensive linemen/rushers aren’t getting a push strategy really doesn’t matter. Especially against a good QB.

I think it’s abkut time to put Kongbo up there with Chris Donald.

Yeah they could have scored against any coverage we put out there today. Grier and those WRs feast on anyone who gives then time to throw.

Zone 100% of the time. It’s easy to find a soft spot in a zone like wvu was playing. Which is why JG completes like 85% of his passes. Do you know how hard it is to get off the line on a physical corner.

All told, I feel worse than I thought I would.

Getting to a bowl game is going to be a real struggle. Not impossible but we’re a lot closer to Vandy/Kentucky/Missouri than Georgia/Florida/South Carolina. Which shouldn’t be a surprise given the last decade but for some reason we have to learn these lessons before we accept it.

How many of those physical corners do we have? How many points did we put up on that zone with JG completing 85% of his passes. It's true it's easier to move the ball between the 20s against the zone but gets more difficult in the red zone.

Florida is not close to Georgia.

Taylor did really well at holding down his side i thought. I know this loss sucks but i think it was a horrible matchup for us and i liked our scheme both on offense and defense. We obviously need more players but i saw a lot from our players and coaches that i liked.

We scored 2 of 3 in the red zone. Could’ve kicked a FG to make it 3-3 but that wasn’t what needed to be done at that point. We should’ve scored 21 in three quarters once we got past the first quarter. Offense will get better. I thought it would suck and d would be good. Instead, it went opposite. Hopefully, the young guys will improve and keep pushing and we will improve the next two weeks in understanding the scheme change.
