Saban has changed everyone’s perception of sustained success. He’s essentially ruined football for most people.

He really has. It’s like 10 wins isn’t good enough anymore. Basically fulmer would’ve been fired in like 03 if saban was around. It’s crazy.

Man if you guys are down playing Jimbo for someone like Scott Frost there is really no point in discussing it.

I'm not saying jimbo is a bad coach, I just think he's seen his better days. I don't think he'd succeed here as much as he has a FSU.

I’m going to have to agree with the propane man on this one.

Change of scenery is all that’s needed for coaches sometimes.

This checks all the boxes and would be a monster hire in my opinion.

Post from Swain twitter in Gruden thread;

Better days are coming.

The east isn't as good as it was once was no doubt and the West as it was just a couple of years ago. But we're looking at time spans that include when the sec was significantly better. Three years ago the ACC had two teams.

In 2014, FSU, Clemson, Louisville, and GT were all very good. GT best Georgia and Mississippi State that year.

Given that we have had exactly one 10 win season in the last 13 or so years, you’d think our fans valued them more. But I guess not.

I agree that if all you do is produce a few 10 win seasons that’s not enough. But if your “down” years are 9/10 win seasons you are doing something right!

I get that but if we’re debating resumes, experience, conference/recruiting area ties... no one comes close to him. It would be like hiring Petino (minus the recent scandal) in basketball.

Not saying he's not done well in the past, I just think we've seen his best and his trajectory is downward.

Could be. I do think some new scenery might suit him well. If we were able to pull Jimbo I'd feel real good with where this program is headed. Would be the be the best coach in the east and would dominate the state in recruiting IMO. I'd say in most years we'd be between 9 and 11 wins while we would win the east at least once every 3 or 4 years.

I think we also compare potential coaches to Butch and Dooley. Won't be hard to improve on those two.

No debating FSU has declined. Also no debate Jimbo has had extended consistent success.

Maybe his time there is winding down but he would be a home run hire here.

Jimbo is the closest thing a sure thing you can find. Even more than Gruden. We would be in Atlanta virtually every year I would I think.

I know it's sort of transitive property type stuff, but here's my thinking on Jimbo vs. Mullen... In going from a program with great recent success in a conference where he regularly has a greater talent advantage to the situation at UT, I think it's reasonable to expect an average net loss of two wins per year from Jimbo's average record at FSU. Whereas with Mullen, I think going from a perennial doormat in one of the toughest divisions in the sport could end up with a net gain of two wins per year over his current average at MSU. In that, I'll take Mullen.

As for Frost... If he proceeds to win the rest of the games on his schedule by two scores, which looks very possible, that's the kind of dominance Urban Meyer showed before going to Florida. I know it is the American East Confernece, but dominance is dominance, and he is dominating the American East with an American East team.

Maybe this year but not in seasons past. Plus your making my argument for me. As the conference has improved FSU has declined.

The last several seasons they have been.

Vol fans just don’t want to believe it. We like to think the reason we have been bad the past few years is because the SEC is just so hard to win in instead of facing the reality of it. We suck.

I somehow keep meeting new Vols fans in Atlanta. Just met a lady who graduated in 1977. I asked her if she’s watched any games this year and she replied: “What’s the point of watching UT football anymore? They aren’t any good and haven’t been for a long time.”

I hear that sentiment a lot.

AD needs to nail this hire.

So she only watches if she thinks there good? Doesn't sound like she's really a fan. I understand the struggles an disappointment, but we have too many of these kind of "fans".
